Daytime Lilacs and Deep Purples Using Illamasqua and MAC Eye Shadows

Earlier this week, I made a review on my Illamasqua eyeshadow in Creep. It is a pretty matte lavender eyeshadow that I decided to pair with some of my MAC shadows lying around.

I used my beautiful Sorceress eye shadow palette from the Holiday 2009 Magic, Mirth, and Mischief. I love the combination of lavenders and deep eggplant purples. All eye products MAC unless otherwise specified.

Apply Urban Decay primer potion in Sin all over lid and browbone and lower lashline. Using a stiff shader brush, apply Illamasqua Creep on lid.

Using the 224 brush, apply Hypnotizing on crease.

Saint Patrick's Day Look Using MAC Eye Shadows

Green is my favorite color and one of my favorite eyeshadow colors, so here is a green springy look just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

I used my favorite MAC green and olive eyeshadows in Humid, Flourishing, and Greensmoke. Humid is one of my favorite MAC shadows of all time. It really makes green eye looks richer and gives depth to the whole look.

I also used the wonderful Grand Entrance dark hunter green eyeshadow from the MAC Holiday 2008 palette. I love this green, a deeper green but different in shade from Humid.

I used Manila Paper to highlight. It's from the Colour 4 quad of the Spring Colour Forecast collection. This shadow is quickly becoming one of my favorite highlighters.

I used MAC Fab-racadabra Bronze Face Kit from the Magic Mirth and Mischief Holiday 2009 collection. I can't get over how wonderful these three products work in tandem with each other. Sunbasque is a beautiful blush as it is, but combined with Golden bronzing powder and Buffed and Polished iridescent shimmer, it's perfection on my skintone.

I used MAC Brave New Bronze lipstick.

I used MAC dazzleglass in Sublime Shine over the lipstick.

I did use a pretty green mineral eyeshadow from Earthen Glow Minerals called Kauai Kiwi, a nice lime (or, okay, kiwi) color that is vibrant and contrasts beautifully with the dark MAC shadows.

Here's a step by step. All eye products MAC unless otherwise stated.

Apply Urban Decay Sin primer potion all over lid and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply Mossscape paint pot on lid.

Using a slightly damp stiff shader brush like the 239 (use Charged Water to dampen the brush), apply Earthen Glow mineral eyeshadow in Kauai Kiwi eyeshadow on the lid.

Using Sonia Kashuk blender brush, apply Greensmoke on the crease.

Lilacs and Purples Using MAC Sorceress Eye Shadow Palette

Here is a quick look using my MAC Sorceress eyeshadow palette. I love lavenders and purples so I really had to get this one. Here is a quick step-by-step. All eye products MAC unless otherwise specified.

Apply Beige-ing shadestick all over lid and browbone and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply Fresco Rose paint pot on lid.

Using a stiff shader brush, apply Magnetized on lid.

Using the 224 brush, apply Hold My Gaze on crease.

Using the Sonia Kashuk blender brush, apply Hypnotizing on crease.

Using the same blender brush, apply Edge of Dark on outer V. Blend with the 224.

Using the same blender brush, apply Altered State on the crease and outer V. Blend with the 224.

Apply more Altered State and Edge of Dark to contour the crease.

Using Stila Brush No. 5, apply White Rabbit on browbone to highlight.

Apply L'Oreal Lineur Intense in Black liquid liner on upper lashline. Rim eyes (waterline and tightline) using Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on liner pencil in Zero. Using the 219, apply Magnetized on inner to mid lower lashline and Altered State on outer lower lashline. Apply Red Cherry falsies #15. Apply mascara.

Neutrals Using MAC Smoke and Mirrors Eye Shadow Palette

DSCF2382

Here's a quick look using my new MAC eyeshadow palette in Smoke and Mirrors. I've already featured a review and some swatches on this product, so I created a look using the pretty colors in the palette. It's pretty simple though, so don't expect anything flamboyant.

I also used my favorite brown gel liner, Graphic Brown.

I also used my Fab-racadabra Bronze Face Kit for this look. I love this palette!

Here's a step-by-step. All MAC products unless otherwise noted. Sorry no face pics! I have FOTD pic after the jump.

Apply Bare Canvas paint all over lid and browbone. Apply Perky paint pot on lid using a fluffy shader brush. Using a stiff shader brush (239 or Loew Cornell Maxine's Mop 3/8"), apply Spell No. 9 on lid. Using Sonia Kashuk blender brush, apply Wide Eyed Wonder on crease.

Using the same blender brush, apply Black Magique on crease and outer V. Blend with Wide Eyed Wonder using the 224 brush.

Using the Sonia Kashuk blender brush, apply Smoke and Mirrors to mix with Black Magique.

Add more Black Magique using the blender brush when necessary. Blend with the 224.

Using the Stila No. 5 brush, apply Fire In Her Eyes to highlight. Using the Sonia Kashuk bent eyeliner brush, apply Graphic Brown fluidline on upper lashline.

Apply Red Cherry false lashes no. 15. Using the Coastal Scents small taklon brush tip, apply Fire In Her Eyes on inner lower lashline and Black Magique on outer lower lashline. Rim eyes (waterline and tightline) using Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero. Apply mascara.

MAC Magic Mirth and Mischief Eye and Face Palettes Haul

I've finally had the time to create a look featuring some of my favorite palettes from the MAC Holiday Magic, Mirth and Mischief eye and face kits. Two of my favorite eye palettes are the Smoke and Mirrors and Sorceress palettes. They have beautiful color combinations and the hues are rich.

DSCF2382

As I said in my MAC Magic Mirth and Mischief Review and Swatches, I loved the pigmentation of the shadows in the palettes. Smoke and Mirrors colors are neutral but very wearable, and you can layer the colors if you want increased depth or definition. I really believe this is the perfect palette to bring with you to a cruise or for a weekend getaway, or just to tote around in your purse, because all the needed colors are here, from a light neutral eye to a smokey, sultry eye look for a night out in town. When I went to my Nordstrom MAC counter to purchase this, the MA said that I was in luck because this palette got sold out weeks before, and they just received a new shipment that very day I visited the counter. It just shows that it wasn't just me who fell in love with this palette.

Sorceress is another winner for me. I loved the lavender, blue purple, frosted soft white highlighter, the gorgeous charcoal, the cool green grey, and the frosted greyed mauve in this palette. I love purples so this is a must-have for me. I can have so much fun thinking of eyeshadow combinations using this palette. I made a look using this palette, so watch out for it.

My favorite face kit - Fab-racadabra Bronze Face Kit. I love it because it has its own bronzer, blush and highlighter in one beautiful compact. Golden is a muted gold tan with gold pearl, the bronzer of the bunch. It is beautiful to warm the complexion and also to contour the cheekbone area. Buffed and Polished is a frosty bronzed gold which is an iridescent powder, which I use to highlight the cheekbone or appleas of the cheeks. Very beautiful highlighter. Sunbasque is a gilded peach with pearl, a sheertone shimmer which is part of the permanent line. I got it nonetheless because I used to have one but swapped it away, and I had swapper's remorse after I did. This is one beautiful combination of colors, and I love using this again and again.

I prefer Fab-racadabra over Hocus Focus because the colors are more suitable to my warm complexion, and the highlighter in Fab-racadabra is absolutely gorgeous.

Next entry: an eye look using Smoke and Mirrors palette. Stay tuned.

MAC Holiday '09 Magic Mirth and Mischief Colour Collection Review and Swatches

I've had the chance to play with the colors in this collection and I was able to swatch them since early last week, but I've been caught up in many different things so I apologize for the delay. For some reason, I'd totally forgotten to swatch the lipsticks (maybe because I got sidetracked by the eyeshadow palettes). Anyways, will post the lippie swatches later this week, so come back to this post for those.

Anyways, I'd been really, really excited about the counterparts of this collection in previous years, namely Antiquitease in 2007, and "Red" She Said in 2008. Sad to say, however, this new holiday colour collection didn't really pique that much interest in me, although I find the dazzleglass lovely but not must-haves. I also prefer the mineralize trios of Red She Said compared to this year's duos. Maybe it's just me, but I really didn't find anything that made me say, "I have to get this!".

Anyways, the mineralize eyeshadows have pretty colors, but as always, the glittery crescents are a bit chunky to apply, and are better applied wet in my experience. My favorite is It's A Miracle, a base of deep blue blurgundy with a gold crescent. I don't know if I'm getting this, though, because I already have a lot of similar shades in my stash. Mayhem is another pretty one, a dirty brown gold with a silver crescent. The base of Midnight Madness is gorgeous: a dirty grey brown, and its crescent is a gold frost. I would have loved to get this one just for the dirty grey brown shade, but I am iffy about the gold one. Under Your Spell is a light yellow peach pink with a rich copper crescent. Blue Sorcery is another pretty color if you like blues, a base of bright turquoise with a silver crescent.

The dazzleglasses are pretty nifty. Jingle Jangle is a yellow pink gloss with red and sapphire pearl. I think this is the prettiest of the bunch because it is not super duper sheer; it has some pigment in it. The other two would make for beautiful, shiny, luscious lips, but I didn't see much color pay-off in them. She-Zam is a sheer silver with silver and red pearl, while Phiff!is a sheer yellow peach. I would love to have She-Zam though because it looks quite festive. This would probably give a pretty frosty ice maiden look, but it would be quite wearable because it's sheer.

Cremesheen Glasses

Boy Bait and Ever So Rich are repromotes from early this year's Creme Team collection. Boy Bait is a light neutral beige with pearl, and Ever So Rich is a sheer lilac. I used to not like the formula of the cremesheen glass, but surprisingly, it's growing on me. It is not as glittery as the dazzleglasses, but they give out this nice, luscious sheen on the lips that is gorgeous. Of the two repromotes, I'd go with Ever So Rich. It is wonderfully creamy, both in feel and in look.

Mineralize Blushes

I LOVE the colors of the blushes in this collection, if only I didn't have similar colors in my stash. Superdupernatural is a beautiful mid-tone coral which I believe would suit my warm undertones. Conjure Up is a dirty, mid-tone plum that is right up my alley. These are the colors I wear almost everyday, and I can see myself reaching for these every single day.

IMG_2477

Softsparkle Eye Pencil

I've never been impressed with these softsparkle pencils, and it's no different this time. I honestly don't like tiny shards of glitter or pearl or whatever you call them in my eye pencils because I mainly use these for the waterline and to tightline, and it is dangerous to have those shards near the sensitive areas of the eye as it can scratch the cornea. Therefore, do not use these to tightline and to waterline, but limit them to the upper lashline. Iris Accents is a pale violet with silver pearl and Nightsky is a true black with silver pearl. Both are pretty, but I just don't use them.

All in all, I am a bit underwhelmed by this collection. However, if you are new to these colors and shades, I would recommend both mineralize blushes, mineralize eyeshadow duos in Midnight Madness, Mayhem and It's A Miracle, and dazzleglasses in She-Zam and Phiff!. As for the lipsticks, Total Wow! (blue pink berry) and Utter Fun (Fuchsia pink berry) would be fun colors for the holiday. As for the cremesheen glass, Ever So Rich is my fave.
