Glow Recipe Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask
Glow Recipe Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask

A few months ago, I posted the above photo on my Instagram account, saying that these are the skincare products that have vastly improved my skin.  I've had problematic skin for as long as I can remember, but there was a long stretch of time when I actually had perfect skin, but the catch was that I was taking something to balance my hormones.  Once I was off that, my hormones would again wreak havoc on my skin.  If I wasn't on those pills, I would be on antibiotics.  This is the only time in my life when I have good skin and I'm not on any medication.  I take supplements, but that's about it.  I know the above products are the major reason why I am blessed with good skin now, along with the proper diet, exercise and enough sleep (I haven't been sleeping this well since maybe a decade ago).

I know things are crazy right now and many people are tightening their belts, but since the Sephora Spring Savings Event is here where Rouge members get 20% off 4/17 through 5/01, VIB members get 15% off 4/21 through 4/29, and Beauty Insider members get 10% off 4/23 through 4/27, this is an opportune time to invest in skincare.  I'd put makeup at the lowest end of priorities during this time, but I believe we still need to take care of our skin as a form of self-care.  Through this time, I will be posting my recommendations, mostly skincare, on this blog, as I believe that if we have the means and we can save a little bit of money, we can stock up on skincare staples that we use day in and day out.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask
Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask

One of the skincare staples I will definitely be stocking up on is the Glow Recipe Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask.  Suffice it to say that I've tried sleeping masks in the past, but this is my holy grail mask so far, to the point that I don't even use moisturizers on most nights.  I slather this on after applying all my skincare products and immediately after I apply my face oil.  This keeps the serums, essences, retinoids locked in place, and yet it doesn't smear on my pillow and I wake up with skin that's soft and supple.

This formulation has watermelon extract that hydrates and delivers essential vitamins and contains anti-inflammatory properties.  One of my favorite ingredients in it is Hyaluronic Acid, which I use both day and night.  It's a humectant and hydrates the skin by holding up to 1,000 its weight in moisture.  The AHA is another one of my favorites.  It's short for Alpha Hydroxy Acid. Its acids are a blend of lactic acid and glycolic acid that gently exfoliate skin to reveal smoother, brighter skin over time by sloughing off dead surface skin cells. It's technically a chemical exfoliant but this AHA in this particular product is incredibly gentle. It also has peony root to brighten and soothe skin.

I saw a fun video on YouTube on how Glow Recipe makes this mask.  I can imagine the wonderful smell of the lab, because they use vats and vats of, you guessed it, watermelons!

I really believe this is one of the major reasons why I've seen a tremendous difference in my skin.  This retails for $45 for a huge 2.7oz/80 ml tub, and a little goes a long way.  The sale would slash the price of this staple skincare product.

Stay tuned for Part Two of the Sephora Springs Sales Event skincare recommendations.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Undereye Cream

I have been using the IT Bye Bye Lines Undereye Cream, and I have been a fan because it really moisturizes and gives a nice suppleness to the undereye area.  It is Opthamologist-tested, the cream is infused with copper, blue algae, caffeine, hydrolyzed collagen, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, cucumber, and peptides--and helps address the appearance of the signs of aging to your delicate eye area.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum

Your Customer Choice Beauty award-winning Bye Bye Lines is a weightless serum that helps to improve the appearance of dry fine lines and wrinkles, giving you the look of smoother, brighter, and younger-looking skin. According to IT Cosmetics, it has chocfull of peptides, caviar extract, sea water, hydrolyzed collagen, algae, and IT's Drops of Light Technology, it gives your skin the appearance of a healthy-looking glow as soon as you apply it.

How to use: In the morning and evening, apply Bye Bye Lines Serum onto clean skin of your face, neck, and decollete.

I unfortunately don't have the Bye Bye Foundation and full coverage moisturizer and the #22 Foundation brush, but IT Cosmetics did send me this super cute souvenir IT Cosmetics traincase!  I will definitely bring this with me when I go on vacation!

IT Cosmetics comes up with an award-winning skincare line, and it reinvents itself in the Bye Bye Foundation. IT is technically not a foundation. Bye Bye Foundation is your full-coverage moisturizer with SPF 50 sunscreen. It feels like a moisturizer, giving your skin hydration while covering the look of imperfections and giving your skin natural-looking, even coverage. Formulated with fermented ingredients that help address the appearance of the signs of aging, it gives you the look of beautiful skin.  The foundation has an extensive range of shades (12!).

Again, this set is Today's Special Value on QVC.  It is available right now for 5 easy pays of only $13.99 each!   (Item Number A302037)

And don't worry, even after today, this item will still be available on QVC.com.  If you are a fan of these makeup staples from IT Cosmetics, do not pass up this chance to snag this set.

Simply Scrub Organic Chocolate Body Scrub

Simply Scrub Organic Chocolate Body Scrub

I have been obsessed with body scrubs ever since I found out how glowing, rejuvenated and smooth these make the skin look and feel.  I used to have really dull, flaky skin, especially during the winter months.  I especially needed help on my rough spots- elbows, knees, ankles, heels.  I've tried other body scrubs but here is a line that is unlike others I've tried as the Simply Scrub line of body scrubs are 100% organic, 100% natural and 100% chemical-free.

I was able to try four variants of the organic body scrubs- Chocolate, Rose, Soursop and Coffee.  I am a chocolate and coffee addict, so I was only so glad to try these two scrubs.  The organic Chocolate scrub smells really decadent and perfect for the morning showers- feels ultimately luxurious.  It's not just a mood enhancer but also has flavonoids (special oxidants) that can help protect against UV rays.  Yay for me who is really into slathering SPF on my body even during the winter!

My favorite aside from the Chocolate body scrub is Coffee.  It is perfect during those dreary winter mornings - really wakes me up from my stupor.  It also tones down inflammation or redness aside from smoothing rough spots and flakies.  LOVE!

Soursop is a favorite flavor of mine to indulge in bubble tea shops- I grew up eating this in the Philippines, a spiky green fruit that is native to South America, Africa and Southeast Asia that is jampacked with vitamins A, B, and C, and soothes skin during bouts of eczema and other skin conditions.  This scrub contains mint and brown sugar as well as essential oils.

Rose is the most romantic variant, obviously.  It has anti-bacterial and tonic properties to keep skin clean and pores tight.  The flower also contains vitamin C to lighten darkened spots, and almond oil to heal blemishes.

All in all, I am pretty impressed with these organic scrubs, and the fact that they're 100% chemical free and all-natural is a major bonus for me.  My favorites are Coffee and Chocolate, which are super decadent and invigorate the senses during sleepy morning showers.

You can purchase these products at SimplyScrub.com.  They also have pretty gift sets that are perfect for giving your friends and loved ones the gift of smooth, supple skin.

I gotta say that even before this tremendous clamor and hype for highlighters, I was already a highlighter fan. Way back in 2007, I created a blog post on my MAC mineralize skin finish collection, which are basically MAC's most popular type of highlighters. I loved how these MSFs gave me instant glowy skin and cheekbones!

Over the years, though, the formulation of highlighters has changed - for the better, I should say. In the past, most highlighters tend to emphasize large pores when applied with a heavy hand. Now, most highlighters not only give a beautiful lit-from-within look to the skin, but they can be so subtle that you would think that it was the actual skin that radiates and not a cosmetic product.

Becca Rose Quartz shimmering skin perfectorBecca Rose Quartz Shimmering Skin Perfector is one of those new highlighter formulas that give a beautiful glow to the skin without being over-the-top. It is not as subtle as the HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting powders, but it gives a truly lit-from-within look. It creates a luminous subtle rose-hued complexion that is really pretty. In the photos above, I used it to highlight my cheekbones and I really like how it perked up my skin and made it look more alive and luminous.

I will be reviewing the rest of the Becca shimmering skin perfectors and highlighters featured in the first two photos above, so stay tuned!

I am a sucker for complexion oils.  My skin is especially dry and flaky these days because I am on a prescription retinoid regimen, but complexion oils help calm the irritation caused by the retinoids, and at the same time, help to make the skin look moisturized and supple when I wake up in the morning.

I will do a separate video or written review on my skincare routine and complexion oils review, but  I can say that using a good moisturizer (and, in my case, I prefer complexion oils right now) is the best tip I can give you.

Below is a video about 5 skincare tips from an aesthetician.   What skincare tip interests you the most?

tarte maracuja™ Neck Treatment Cream Review

Press sample

We are all very particular about our skincare, so we slather the best face creams and moisturizers to keep our skin youthful, taut and supple.  However, many of us forget to apply creams on our necks.  I've seen mature people with beautiful, supple faces but their necks looked neglected.  This is the reason why I was really excited to try the tarte maracuja neck treatment - white.

It is a white cream with a nice, refreshing scent.  It also comes in a rather large 50ml/1.7 oz tub.

The cream applies nicely, has a clean, fresh scent that doesn't smell cloying, and it is moisturizing without feeling greasy on the skin.  I apply it sparingly on my neck after I apply my night cream before I go to bed every night.  It does keep the neck area looking and feeling moisturized.

The often-neglected area of the neck is very thin, and it needs lots of care and attention.
This product from tarte is infused with maracuja™, as well as sodium hyaluronate and algae extracts. tarte claims that this intensely hydrating formula works over time to help promote cell regeneration and skin elasticity while reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sagging. While I don't have sagging and wrinkles on my neck to actually verify this claim, I can feel that this product is indeed very emollient and moisturizing.

The tarte Maracuja maracuja™ Neck Treatment is available on tarte.com for $49.00(they are having a 20% off sale this holiday weekend! CODE: SPLASH).
