MAC A Tartan Tale Chapter 2 Sneak Peek: Lipglass, Pigments and Nail Lacquer Mini Sets Swatches and Review

As I had mentioned in a previous post, I went to the MAC A Tartan Tale Preview/Unveiling Event at my neighborhood MAC store, but only the lip, face, brush and eye kits, as well as colour collection, were available at the preview. The second wave of the collection (pigment, lipglass, nail lacquer sets) will be available in a couple of weeks. However, I was able to play with some of these mini-sets, and here are some swatches and my thoughts on them.

5 Sassy Pink Lassies Lipglass

Swatches and review after the jump

If you like pink lipglosses, or if you know someone who does, this is the perfect holiday gift. 5 mini-lipglasses in a very pretty plaid tin case for $29.50 ain't bad at all. The tin case is perfect as a pencil or even makeup brush holder, and can be great for travel to carry a wide variety of knickknacks in your luggage.

As for the lipglasses, they are not very unique colors as they are just your classic pink gloss, but the shades range from sheer light pink to hot pink, so the variety is a plus.

Frozen Dream is a medium pink rose that looks cool to my eye. Fab Fun is a pale crystal pink that has a lot of shimmer. The Wee Coquette is a naked neutral pink that would be great for a nude lip or to tone down darker lippies. Electro Lush is a medium mauve that would look good on medium to dark skintones. Sassy Lassy is a bright pink fuchsia which I believe will be the most popular shade in this kit.

5 Naughty Little Vices Nail Lacquer set

L-R: Asiatique, Nocturnelle, Vice Is Nice, Vintage Vamp, Beyond Jealous

I will be doing proper nail swatches of these mini lacquers, but for now, here are the swatches on tape. Asiatique is a bright, and I mean BRIGHT fire engine red. It is described as a a bright cherry red, but I think it is brighter than that. I love it because it is very festive, and it looks great on my skintone.

Vintage Vamp is a deep blood red that I am excited to use because I am a sucker for red blood polish. The fact that it's cream in formula is another reason for me to love this.

Beyond Jealous is a deep forest green that is almost black indoors. I am not a fan of too dark greens, but I will try it on my nails to really see how it is. The jury is still out on this one as far as I am concerned.

I have Nocturnelle in the regular size bottle, and it is your basic black. I love it on my toes!

Vice is Nice is a classic metallic gold that I wish is available NOW in the regular size bottle. I like how holiday-ish it looks.

5 Warm Thrillseekers Pigments/Glitter set

L-R: Gift O'Glamour, Gilded Green, Gold Mode, Most Darling, Reflects Glitter

I am always looking forward to the mini-pigment set as I am a pigment fiend and I always find the regular size pigment too be too large for me because I know I will never use it all up. The mini-pigments are just the perfect size to play with and the variety of colors is a thrill for me. This year, the tin cases are such eye candy that I want to collect them all. I think this is the prettiest and yet most utilitarian holiday case MAC has ever come up with.

I love the Warm pigments because they work great with my warm skintone. My favorite from this bunch is Gift O'Glamour which is a pale metallic pink that I will use as a lid color or a highlight. Gold Mode is a peachy gold shimmer that looks amazing on the right skintone. Gilded Green is a mint ice cream green, a pretty color that will work great with golds and darker greens. Most Darling is a medium brown shimmer that will work best with neutrals, golds, bronzes, coppers, pretty much anything, even taupes. I am not a fan of glitter so I don't know what I will use the Reflects Glitter for.

There are 3 variants of the pigments/glitter mini-set, so if you don't like the Warm set, there are still two more that you could choose from: The Cool and the Smoky.

All in all, the winner of this year's holiday mini-sets is the packaging, followed by the pigments and nail lacquer mini-sets. For sure there is something from this group that will pique your interest either for yourself or as a gift to a friend or family member.
