I purchased the  Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance way back in November 2016, after all the hype and accolades it received on blogs and social media, and after I watched Stephanie Nicole on YouTube say that this was one of the best (if not the best) palettes of 2016 that she's tried. I didn't want to feel too skeptical about it, but I was.

I was also hesitant to purchase it because I don't really use a lot of pinks, magentas and hues in that color family on my eyes. I prefer neutrals, bronzes and earth colors for my eye shadows.  However, I was definitely intrigued, so when the Sephora VIB sale rolled around, I quickly snagged this palette, and posted a look on my Instagram.  However, this is the first time that I am formally reviewing this palette.

The Modern Renaissance palette has fourteen shades (14 x .02 shadows) in neutral, rose, berry and plum tones.  It also comes with a double-sided brush.  The colors are very appropriate for fall, but are versatile enough to be worn year-round.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Bold & Beautiful Kit Swatches, Review

Anastasia Bold and Beautiful Kit

A

I am so excited to share with you another kit from Anastasia of Beverly Hills.  I've been a loyal fan of Anastasia's brow powders for many years now. I still use the brow powder that I got several years back. The shades is perfect for my hair color, and what I like best is that it applies really smooth on the brows without creating ugly patches or bald spots. This time, Anastasia created a really nice double palette kit. One features a kit for brows and the other an eye shadow palette.

As you can see, the packaging is darling. It comes with a really pretty bookcase-style packaging and I really like the intricate design in front of each palette, as well as the gold lettering.

Vol. 1 Bold Brows contains a brow powder, pomade (or wax to set brows), mini duo brush, and mini tweezers to sulpt, design and fill in brows. I love that it even has a pair of tweezers for those annoying stray hairs! The brow powder is in a taupe color that should work for many shades of hair color.

Vol. 2 Beautiful Eyes kit has four shadows that have varying shades of finishes, from matte to shimmery. Most of them are neutrals, and even the shimmery peach has a nice soft color that would work great with the neutrals. As you can see in the swatches above, they are quite pigmented, although the lightest shade didn't really show up on my skin. I don't know if it's because it has the exact shade of my skintone, or if really does not have much color pay-off. In any event, I really like the dark brown shimmery shadow because it worked great as a crease color. The peachy shimmery shadow is perfect on the lid, as you can see in my eye look below.

Below are some swatches of the Vol. 1 Bold Brows Kit:

As you can see, they brow powder is quite pigmented and really applied the color evenly on the skin. The wax is quite dark, but I applied it with a heavy hand, so you can always make it more sheer or lighter if you want.

Below is a look I did with this kit:

I love the overall effect. It looks really neutral and nice with a nice pop of peach color. I also like the brow powder on my brows and made it look more defined.

Theis kit retails for $36 and you can find it at Anastasia.net.
