Teals and Blues Using CARGO and MAC Eye Shadows

Here are some bright, bright blues from the Los Angeles eyeshadow palette from the Cargo Pro Picks collection. I am loving this palette because the colors are rich and hella pigmented. The bright teal is not for the faint of heart! It is lovely though and is just perfect for summer.



I also used one of my most favorite (if not THE most fave) MAC quads, Tone:Grey. The colors are very simple and yet so beautiful when applied. The most simple colors are indeed the prettiest.

Here is a step by step. All products MAC unless otherwise stated.


Apply Urban Decay primer potion all over lid and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply Rollickin' paint pot on lid.


Using a firm shader brush, apply Turquoise shade from the Cargo Los Angeles palette.


Using the Sonia Kashuk crease/blender brush, apply the teal color from the Cargo palette on the outer V. Blend with the 224 brush.


Using the same brush, apply The Right Smoke on the crease and blend with the teal shadow using the 224 brush.

Simple Silver and Grey Look Using MAC Eye Shadows

If I have a favorite MAC eyeshadow palette of late, it would be the Tone:Grey quad from the MAC Trend F/W '09 collection. I'd thought that the colors were a bit blah and were not really of interest especially if you consider them individually, but the combination of all these shades is pretty amazing to me. I also like that the blue really makes the eyes pop and it kicks up the boring grey-smokey eye a notch. For this particular look, though, I used mostly the greys in the quad.

I also used Silverthorn eyeshadow from the Rose Romance collection. I LOVE this eyeshadow. It is just the perfect silver for me - not too bling-y, not too garish, not too dull, but just gives the right sparkle to the eye to make it glow.









All MAC products unless otherwise stated:

I used Urban Decay primer potion on lid and lower lashline, Cash Flow paint pot on lid, Silverthorn on lid applied with the 239 brush, Waft and Tone Grey on crease and outer V using Sonia Kashuk blender brush and blended together using the 224, Waft on outer lower lashline and Silverthorn on inner lower lashline using the 219 brush. I used A Warmer White to highlight using Stila No. 5 brush. I lined the eye using L'Oreal Lineur Intense liquid liner, and rimmed eyes (waterline and tightline) using Urban Decay 24/7 pencil liner in Zero.

Blues and Greys Using MAC Tone: Grey Eyeshadow Quad

Here's a look featuring MAC Trend F/W '09 collection's Tone: Grey quad. I am liking the combination of grey and blue because it's a breath of fresh air amidst the proliferation of many grey and black eye looks. The blue gives a new look to the greys, making a more vibrant overall appearance.


I used the DSquared greasepaint stick in "B" to prime the outer V of my eye and the lower lashline.


I used Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Skinny Jeans to prime the lid for the grey shadows.


I used Silverthorn eyeshadow from MAC A Rose Romance collection together with the shadows in the Tone:Grey quad.


I used L'oreal's Lineur Intense liquid liner which is quickly becoming a favorite for everyday use.




I used On A Mission beauty powder blush from Style Warrior with Sculpt powder to contour.


I used Nico Now lipglass.

Here's a step-by-step. All eye products MAC unless otherwise stated.


Apply Bare Canvas paint all over lid and browbone. Apply Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Skinny Jeans on lid using a fluffy brush. Using the 239 brush, Tone Grey lightly on the lid to even the color. Apply B Greasepaint stick on the outer lid.


Intensify B Greasepaint stick on the outer V.


Using the 239 brush, apply Silverthorn on outer 2/3 of lid. Using the Sonia Kashuk blender brush, apply Tone Grey on mid to outer lid.




Apply The Right Smoke on the crease and outer V using the Sonia Kashuk blender brush. Add Waft using the same brush and in gentle but quick one-direction sweeps, blend the colors together.


Using the Stila No. 5 brush, apply A Warmer White on the browbone. Using the 219 brush, apply Vanilla pigment on the tearducts/inner corners. Apply L'oreal Lineur Intense liner on upper lashline. Apply B greasepaint stick on lower lashline.


Using the 219 brush, apply The Right Smoke on lower lashline over the greasepaint stick.

MAC Trend F/W '09: Swatches and Review

I was able to play with the products from MAC's Trend F/W '09, and if you don't have these predominantly grey and deep berry, purple and vampy colors to herald the coming of fall, this little collection definitely offers something that can pique your interest. Let's go right away to the Tone: Grey quad. I am in love with the colors, if only I don't have stuff in my stash that can easily dupe these colors. In fact, one of them, Waft, is from the almost-similar Gentle Fume quad which I have and love to bits.

Warmer White is a satin white with a slight green sheen. It's obviously the highlighter of the bunch, but it does not really do anything for me- just your basic whitish highlighter for cool eyeshadow colors.

Tone Grey is a satiny light grey that doesn't have that much pigmentation. It's a pretty grey, though, and if you don't have much greys in your stash, this would be a good addition.

The Right Smoke is obviously similar to Deep Truth and Freshwater. Very pigmented, but obviously very dupe-able as well.

Waft is a deep blue grey that would make a good crease or outer V color or for a good smokey eye effect. A repromote from the Smoke Signals collection.

All in all, this quad would be a good buy if you are into greys and smokey eyes and you don't have MAC permanent shadows that can easily dupe these colors (hint: there are a lot of them floating in MAC-landia). Otherwise, you can totally skip this quad. Don't get me wrong: it is such a lovely quad (definitely love at first sight for me), but upon thinking about it further, I realize I have a lot of MAC shadows that are terribly similar to these four.

Hipster is very, very fall. It is a deep berry lipstick that would go well with all the holidays the upcoming seasons bring. I have a lot of these colors in my stash so this is also quite dupe-able for me.

Red Full-Stop is interesting because it is not red at all. It is a bright coral with some gold tones in it, I believe. A very pretty color, but I don't think it would suit me because bright corals look horrendous on my skintone. I love peaches, light corals, but not the bright ones.

Faultlessly F/W is a deep purple that reminds me of Night Violet mattene. Definitely not for the faint of heart. I don't wear these shades so this is definitely a skip-this-one for me.

Our Pick is the one lipstick that beckoned to me from this collection. I know how almost everyone is scared of its brownish-taupe color. I like it because I think this would go well with some of my smokey or dramatic eye looks to tone down the makeup. I also like how unassuming and muted it is, but with enough character to give it some oomph. I also like that it is satin in formula, which means that it has better pigmentation and longer lasting on the lips than the lustre finish.

All in all, I believe there is at least one lipstick shade in this collection that would attract everyone.

Lipglasses:



I definitely love the coordinating lipstick-lipgloss shades. I would love to get Runway Fave to layer over Our Pick. I believe that true to its name, it is definitely a runway fave this season, as I noticed that many runway looks favor the nude lip.

So This Season is a great partner for Faultlessly F/W. Oooh.. vampy, vampy, vampy. This lipglass would look great alone, though, because it's not as dark and goes semi-sheer but it also has significant pigmentation.

New Berry is for Hipster lipstick, obviously, but personally, I would go for these dark lipglasses compared to their vampy lipstick counterparts because these are much more wearable for me, a bit muted and the shine is spectacular.

All in all, this collection offers a little something for everyone. I love the light lipsticks, and ironically, the darker lipglasses. As I said, if you don't have greyish shadows yet, Tone: Grey would be a good investment. If you are into the dark fall lips, though, you will have a field day with this collection.
