Indie Nail Polish Look: Whimsical Ideas By Pam in Hatched

I can't wait for spring!  Here's a spring nail look featuring one of the first indie brands that I purchased, Whimsical Ideas by Pam.  She calls her nail polishes Whimsies, and I love the name!  It was one of the first indie nail polish brands that I did a big haul of.  I bought nine of these polishes in one go.  

Hatched is a beautiful light yellow crelly (cream-jelly) with dainty pastel glitter in different shapes, sizes and colors.  I don't think Hatched is still available, but she still has very similar colors and finishes on her Facebook page.

What do you think of these kinds of nail polishes?  I really think they are adorable.  I think this is perfect for Easter, but there's no reason why you can't wear it any other day.

Layered Polish: Crows Toes Cheshire Over American Apparel Nail Polish in African Violet

Here's another indie nail polish from Crows Toes called Cheshire. I believe this is one of their bestsellers. It has huge gold hex glitter, medium purple hex, holo hex, and smaller purple, holo and magenta hex glitter. Amazing how much glitter is in the bottle! Crows Toes is known to put a chockful of glitter in every bottle, so you might want to add some nail polish thinner to the bottle to aid in application. That is what I did, and it made the glitters behave and apply nicely on the nailbed.

I used my American Apparel African Violet for the base, a beautiful, rich purple cream. American Apparel nail polishes are some of my favorite creams. One-coaters, can you believe that? They apply like a dream on the nailbed, beautiful shades, and quite affordable. They are easily some of my top favorite nail polishes out of the hundreds that I own.

Nail Look: Smitten Polish in Winter is Coming

I have a love for unusual polish, that's why I regularly check out indie polish brands to see if somebody has come up with something fantastic with their creative juices.  Here's a nice one from Smitten Polish.  It's a nice white creamy/jelly base with cobalt blue hex and micro glitter.  It looks clean yet eye-catching on the nails.

I believe I used two coats of this polish over a white cream.  You can also layer this under a white jelly.

As the name says, this is such a wintry color because of the white and blue.  I can't wait for cooler weather!

Layered Polish: Dollish Polish in It's A Me, Mario!

I am really a fan of indie (or custom or hand-mixed) nail polish. I've always been a supporter of small, women-owned or sometimes one-woman stores that produce quality cosmetics. If you browse this blog, you would know that I have tried more than a dozen indie mineral makeup companies owned by small women-operated stores. I love my big company makeup and nail polish, but sometimes I yearn for unique polishes that are not available at stores or produced by big companies. I mostly use commercial nail polish as a base, and use my indie polishes on top for a bit of dimension.

This is a first of a series of my indie nail polish looks. This one is actually a layering of two indie polishes over a bright blue lacquer from Savina. I applied Savina Carribean as a base, a gorgeous, inky blue. I applied It's A Me, Mario! from Dollish Polish's Super Mario Bros. collection. This collection has eight polishes and they're all of course inspired by the iconic video game and its characters. I bought all 8 and they're really pretty! It's a Me, Mario is a clear base with bright blue and red glitter. It also has a smattering of holographic cute stars, which unfortunately I was not able to apply on this swatch. These collections sell out really fast so you have to be updated with the latest news on these indie polishes in order to get what you want.

I also applied Lush Lacquer in Salt n Peppa over Savina Carribean. Salt n Peppa is a clear base with a mixture of different sizes and shapes of black and white glitters: squares, hexagons, rounds and bar strips. Really pretty as well.

I love the combination; it looks really bright and festive.  Watch out for more nail looks using indie polishes!

Layered Polish: OPI Germany in My Very First Knockwurst

I posted an entry on OPI Germany's Don't Talk Back to Me, a beautiful mustard that has very slight shimmer. This time, it's all about OPI My Very First Knockwurst, a nude rose cream that is the perfect nude for me. The rose balances out the nude tone so the shade does not give me cadaver hands. As I'd mentioned in my previous review, this Germany collection's formula is excellent. It is a dream to apply and has the perfect consistency. The product virtually applied itself.


Lush Lacquer in Chubby Bubby layered over OPI My Very First Knockwurst







To add a little dimension, I layered Lush Lacquer Chubby Bubby, an indie brand, over OPI My Very First Knockwurst. It has a light pink base with a gold iridescence. It has different sizes and shapes of black and white glitters in squares, hexagons, rounds and bar strips. Such a beautiful combination! The pink tones in both lacquers complemented each other.
