MAC Art of the Eye: Masat Al Lail Quad, Eye Shadow and Chromagraphic Pencil Swatches, Look, Review

MAC Art of the Eye collection

 (Media sample)

I was able to try some of the products from the MAC Art of Eye collection that came out earlier this month.  I was able to try the very bright single shadows from this collection, as well as the monochromatic smokey palette called Masat Al Lail which is in fact the same quad called Gentle Fume from the Smoke Signals collection of 2007.

Before I go into that, here are the single shadows that I have from this collection:

Bottom: Parrot, Gameela

Blue Eye Look and Tutorial Using MAC Jeanius and Wonder Woman Eyeshadows and Bare Escentuals Buxom Smoky Eye Sticks

Here is another look featuring the blue eyeshadow quad from from the MAC Wonder Woman collection. I used some of the colors from the Lady Justice quad.

I also used the large eyeshadows from the Jeanius collection.

I also used Cremeblend blush in Brit Wit for this look (top left).

I also used MAC Sheen Supreme lipstick in Impressive (top).

Here is a step by step. All eye products MAC unless otherwise noted.

Apply Urban Decay in Eden primer potion all over lid and lower lashline. Apply Bare Escentuals Buxom Waterproof Smokey Eye Stick in Nunchucks on lower lid. Blend harsh edges with the Bare Escentuals Buxom Smoky Eye Brush.

Using the Charm Pro shader brush or a MAC 239 brush, apply Diva in Distress on lid using patting motions.

Blue Eye Look and Tutorial Using the MAC Wonder Woman Lady Justice Eye Shadow Quad

Here is another look featuring the blue eyeshadow quad from from the MAC Wonder Woman collection.

I used the middle strip in Golden Lariat MSF to contour and as a bronzer.

I used Amazon Princess blush (blend of both sides).

I used one of my favorite lipsticks from the collection, Spitfire.

I used Athena's Kiss lipglass on top of Spitfire.

Here's a step-by-step. All eye products MAC unless otherwise noted.

Apply Urban Decay in Sin primer potion all over lid and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply MAC paint pot in Delft on lid.

Using the Charm Pro shader brush or a MAC 239 brush, apply Insurmountable on lid using patting motions.

Blue Smokey Look and Tutorial Using Bare Escentuals and Aromaleigh Mineral Shadows

Top Right: Bare Escentuals Hallucinate
Bottom Right: Bare Escentuals Suspense

Here is another reason why I love mineral eyeshadows. They are vibrant, many times cheaper than the pressed version, and they practically do not have an expiry date unless you introduce moisture into the container. There is the downside of fall-out, but that is not an issue if you dampen your brush just a little bit the first time. You only dampen the brush once and the product will stick to the brush even when you re-use it to pick up darker colors. I only used one shader brush for this look and one blender brush to blend the harsh edges, and just one other brush to apply highlight, but most of the application was done with just one stiff shader brush (like MAC's 239 brush).

In this look, I used Aromaleigh's Looking Glass from the Wonderstruck collection (inspired by Alice in Wonderland). The outer lid and crease colors are from Bare Escentuals' gorgeous Pure Luxuries Volume 2 Kit. I'd thought that I can not blend the two brands together but their formulas just worked seamlessly. This is one of my favorite looks.

I used just a tiny bit of MAC Grand Entrance on the crease to create depth, and Sweet Joy on the browbone to highlight.

Here is a step by step. All products Bare Escentuals unless otherwise stated.

Apply Urban Decay in Sin primer potion all over lid and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply Benefit's Creaseless Cream Shadow in Skinny Jeans on lid.

Using the Charm Pro shader brush or a MAC 239 brush, apply Aromaleigh shadow in Looking Glass foiled on the lid using MAC Fix+.

NYX I Dream Of Antigua Eyeshadow Palette Look and Tutorial

As promised, here is a look using the NYX I Dream of Antigua 5-piece eyeshadow palette, the same palette Selena Gomez used at the 2010 MTV Music Awards. As I had mentioned, I love the nice, smooth texture and good pigmentation. I don't usually wear blues but I like this look. Here's a step-by-step. All products NYX unless otherwise stated.

Apply Urban Decay primer potion in Sin all over lid and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply MAC Delft paint pot on lid.

Using a stiff shader brush like the 239, apply the third shadow from the left on the lid.

Green and Blue Eye Look Using MAC Rated R and Birds And Berries Eye Shadows

Here is a green and blue look featuring some of the MAC eyeshadows that I hardly use. Let's start with Rated "R" from the Love That Look collection. Honestly, I think this was my first time (!) to use this eyeshadow. I love it, though. It's a pretty light yellow green or lime green that looks great for summer. It's been released a year or two ago, but it's only now that I've come to use it. That's what you get when you have a bajillion eyeshadows, both pressed and mineral ones!

For the blue part of my look, I used MAC Birds and Berries eyeshadow from the Give Me Liberty of London collection. It's a beautiful deep teal/dark blue with shimmer. It's perfect as an outer lid color and I didn't know that it can actually work with a lime green on the lid.

Incidentally, another color from the Love That Look collection, Strike A Pose, is an almost-dupe for Birds and Berries.

I also used my beloved MAC greens in Greensmoke and Flourishing to lend some olive green tones to the look.

Here's a step-by-step. All products MAC unless otherwise stated.

Apply Urban Decay primer potion in Sin all over lid and browbone. Using a stiff shader brush like the 239, apply Rated "R" on the lid with patting motions.

Using the Sonia Kashuk blender/crease brush, apply Greensmoke on outer V.

Teals and Blues Using CARGO and MAC Eye Shadows

Here are some bright, bright blues from the Los Angeles eyeshadow palette from the Cargo Pro Picks collection. I am loving this palette because the colors are rich and hella pigmented. The bright teal is not for the faint of heart! It is lovely though and is just perfect for summer.

I also used one of my most favorite (if not THE most fave) MAC quads, Tone:Grey. The colors are very simple and yet so beautiful when applied. The most simple colors are indeed the prettiest.

Here is a step by step. All products MAC unless otherwise stated.

Apply Urban Decay primer potion all over lid and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply Rollickin' paint pot on lid.

Using a firm shader brush, apply Turquoise shade from the Cargo Los Angeles palette.

Using the Sonia Kashuk crease/blender brush, apply the teal color from the Cargo palette on the outer V. Blend with the 224 brush.

Using the same brush, apply The Right Smoke on the crease and blend with the teal shadow using the 224 brush.
