Holiday Nail Look: China Glaze Party Hearty Over Yves Saint Laurent Gold 139
Tuesday, December 27, 2011
Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great holiday! It was a nice hiatus from work and blogging as I spent Christmas with family.
Do you like the new blog look? I am loving it! Thank you Zoe!
I'm back with my holiday nail look. I layered China Glaze Party Hearty from the China Glaze 2010 Holiday collection over YSL Gold 139 nail lacquer. I love Gold 139 because it's not too much of a bright yellow gold, but more of a yellowish champagne color. Party Hearty has all the facets of a bright holiday manicure - clear base with gold, green and bigger red glitter.
Enjoy the post Christmas and pre-New Year week!
YSL Volupte Sheer Candy Review
Thursday, May 26, 2011
Here is a new addition to the Yves Saint Laurent Volupte lipstick line- the new Volupte Sheer Candy comes in six delicious variants and, as the name suggests, quite sheer but loaded with moisturizing properties. The innovative formula consists of 35% lip care ingredients. YSL claims that the lips are hydrated immediately and eight hours after application - how cool is that?

YSL Holiday Collection Swatches and Review Part II: Nail Lacquers in Gold and White Gold
Thursday, November 4, 2010
Here is Part II of the Yves Saint Laurent 2010 Holiday Collection swatches, and this time, we shall be focusing on the nail lacquers. If you have not read my previous review, check out the YSL Holiday Collection Swatches and Review Part I: Rouge Pure Shine, Golden Gloss, Eye Shadow DuoLumieres.
As I have mentioned in Part I of the review, The YSL Holiday 2010 Collection is all about Gold and its different nuances. Holidays call to mind all things ornate, dazzling, flamboyant, and YSL focuses on that image by infusing gold in each one of the Holiday items in this collection. Since the Holidays are also all about tinsel, white gold is also a shade that is highlighted in this collection.

YSL Holiday Collection Swatches and Review Part I: Rouge Pure Shine, Golden Gloss, Eye Shadow DuoLumieres
Tuesday, November 2, 2010
I was able to play with the Yves Saint Laurent Holiday Collection 2010, and I have found some veritable treasures in this collection. This will be part one of the review and swatches, and for this entry, I will be featuring some of the lipsticks, glosses, and the Ombres DuoLumieres Eyeshadow Palette.
The YSL Holiday 2010 Collection is all about Gold and its brilliance and warmth. Holidays call to mind all things ornate, dazzling, flamboyant, and YSL focuses on that image by infusing gold in each one of the Holiday items in this collection. All the facets of this precious metal are exhausted - from the flash of gold of the nail lacquer, to the warmth of its pearly brilliance found in the face highlighter, to tiny gold specks infused in the gloss, so it is not just one shade of gold that you will see in this bunch.

HOLIDAY LOOK 2010
PINK GOLD
This winter, the Yves Saint Laurent woman shimmers in an extravagant harmony of pink gold, plum and crimson. Seductive and dazzling, she is the picture of vibrant glamour, lighting up her gaze
with a play of contrasts: the eyes are resplendent in crimson gold and the lashes clad in deep violet.
Palette Metallic Colorama - Face Highlighter - Pearly Finish
Touche d’or - Face Highlighter - Gold
Ombres Duolumières N° 33 - Silver Gray / Golden Plum
Mascara Volume effet Faux Cils N° 9 - Plum
Rouge Pure Shine N° 35 - Metallic Pink
La Laque N° 140 - Pink Gold
Her lips are enhanced with a gold-spangled lipstick and her eyes smoulder in plum and platinum blue. She plays by her own rules and luxuriates in reinventing herself every day. More passionate, or more vibrant, in thrall to her own desires, she explores every facet of the precious metal. The Yves Saint Laurent woman adds the perfect dose of glamour to any party.

PALETTE METALLIC COLORAMA
FACE HIGHLIGHTER - PEARLY FINISH
Inspired by the new Belle de Jour “Metallic Colorama”
limited edition collection of accessories, the Palette Metallic
Colorama also features, both inside and out, the metallic
effect and the embossed Cassandra logo.
AN OBJECT OF DESIRE
The Palette Metallic CoLorama nestles within a gold
leatherette, rectangular case and comes with its own mirror.
A magnetic catch opens to reveal a complexion highlighter
for the face and décolleté.
A PRECIOUS POWDER
Subtly flecked with iridescent pigments, the powder adds sparkle
to all complexions with its pink-champagne shimmer. Its optical
highlighters catch the light and blend away imperfections.
A cashmere feel and an exceptionally smooth texture give
a flawless long-lasting finish for lavish radiance that lasts the whole
night through.
APPLICATION TIPS
“Apply the multipurpose PALETTE METALLIC
COLORAMA with a powder brush over the whole face
to suffuse it with a delicate golden light, or apply
lightly to the cheekbones and arch of the eyebrows
to sculpt the face.”
A trick of the trade:
apply to the eyelids for a touch of light.

TOUCHE D’OR
FACE HIGHLIGHTER - GOLD*
A genuine beauty enhancer for radiant skin, TOUCHE D’OR
is like a magic wand: on its own, it illuminates the skin with
unrivalled radiance; mixed with another colour, it adds
a luxurious sheen to the eyes or lips.
The brush applicator dusts the complexion with an
iridescent veil of powder. In just a few strokes, it highlights
the contours of the face and illuminates the cheekbones.
Applied beneath the arch of the eyebrows or to the corners
of the eyes, it gives the eyes instant brightness.
APPLICATION TIPS
“TOUCHE D’OR can be used in several ways:
as a highlighter at the top of the cheekbones. On the eyes,
on its own or mixed with another colour, it leaves them
twinkling with gold. Applied over a lipstick, the transformation
is instantaneous. And last but not least, it can add a dash
of brightness to the décolleté or the curve of a shoulder.”

LA LAQUE METALLIC COLORAMA
Gold makes a statement right down to the fingertips, transforming the nails into precious jewels.
La Laque nail lacquer comes in a trilogy of new gold shades with “brushed” metallic glints for a truly vintage look.
Aged gold, rosy copper, brilliant silver: Yves Saint Laurent presents a variation on a theme for a sparkling Christmas season.
La Laque N° 139 - Gold
La Laque N° 140 - Pink Gold
La Laque N° 141 - White Gold
APPLICATION TIPS“Apply to the whole nail or just to the very tip."

Dazzling. Flamboyant. Provocative… She has no time for the commonplace and the garish. She loves to lose herself in a party ambiance.
Free from conventional displays of glitz, the Yves Saint Laurent
woman shimmers and radiates with an inner fire of seduction. Her face sparkles with myriad shades of precious golden light. Her evening attire? An Yves Saint Laurent black chiffon dress, simply draped over her bare skin.
Stylish in every detail and passionately Couture, she wears a touch of gold here and there as a subtle highlight or a bolder flash of colour... with hues of copper, blue-grey, platinum or pink. Pure gold, or alloyed with a shadow of crimson or bronze… she sees colour as a perfect accessory, like her Belle de Jour “Metallic Colorama” leatherette clutch in burnished gold.
With one gesture, she highlights her complexion with a hint of gold and pink-champagne powder, transforms her nails into jewels and darkens her eyes with a smoky bronze... A final touch of frosty pink on the lips and... let the party begin!
Yves Saint Laurent explores the different facets of this precious metal and reinterprets them in an original palette of sparkling, burnished and glimmering colours. Make-up to be combined with evening attire to celebrate the Holiday party season.

YSL Parisienne Review
Friday, October 30, 2009
I was given a media sample of YSL Parisienne, the latest fragrance offering from Yves Saint Laurent. YSL launches the new fragrance in the United States this month, complete with a sensuous new commercial featuring Kate Moss:
First of all, the packaging is pretty simple but is a delight to the eyes- it reminds of a glass liquor bottle containing an alluring rose-colored liquid. Very simple lines, sleek, but attractive.
YSL Parisienne is obviously a modern take on the classic YSL Paris. I am fond of floral scents so this fragrance is up my alley. I like that the scent is not purely rose as pure rose scents sometimes have the cloying effect on me. The top notes are vinyl accord evoking metal gloss and varnish, followed by the tartness of cranberry, but softened by the fruity scent of blackberry. Its heart notes are definitely the unmistakable sensuality of damask rose, mixed with the powdery violet. It is this powdery violet that I don't really care very much for. However, the drydown is amazing on my skin. Its base notes are a cornucopia of patchouli, sandalwood and musk.
Imagine the sensuality of roses mixed with the mysterious, woodsy scent of sandalwood and musk, but uplifting the somewhat dark elements are the fruity notes of blackberry and cranberry. It evokes mystery, sensuality, confidence, with a touch of playfulness. This is not your high school or college fragrance, but it's also not your grandmother's perfume. This is definitely for a woman in her prime, not too young, but not too old either. A woman in her thirties perfectly captures the fragrance, and I believe Kate Moss in the commercial depicts the kind of woman who wears this fragrance.
At first spritz, I found myself attracted to the alluring rose notes, but I was kinda disappointed at the powdery violet notes. Amazingly, though, the powdery violet scent disappears as the product stays longer on my skin, and as I said, the drydown is pleasant - a wonderful mix of woodsy floral with the tiniest hint of fruit notes.
The fragrance was created by Sophia Grojsman and Sophie Labbé for YSL, and the Eau de Parfum is available in 1 oz., 1.6 oz., and 3.0 oz. bottles.
L'Wren Scott Backstage Beauty Report from Lancôme
Friday, March 13, 2009
“Elegance
is refusal.”
—Diana Vreeland
New York Fashion Week
Fall 2009: L’Wren Scott
Backstage at L’Wren Scott
This simple quote perfectly summed up the L’Wren Scott Fall 2009 show, for which Aaron De Mey, Lancôme’s artistic director for makeup, was the lead artist. Instead of hundreds of guests, a jammed backstage and models wearing layers of bright clothes and accessories, everything was calm—and as chic as could be. Only a few dozen guests were invited to attend the show, held at the all-white Gagosian Gallery in New York’s Chelsea art district. The atmosphere, and the clothes, were all about a sultry minimalism, sexy rather than spartan.
The Look:
• Sexy chic
• 20’s/30’s
• Evening glamour in daylight
Backstage hummed with activity as Aaron and his team interpreted
L’Wren’s beauty inspiration—the French women in Jacques Henri Lartigue’s iconic black and white photos from the ‘20s and ‘30s. The smoky eye was a must, of course, and Aaron relied on an unusual trick to achieve it. First, he swept black eyeliner along the upper and lower lash line and coated lashes with ÔSCILLATION VIBRATING MASCARA. Next, he held the flame from a lighter against a white plate, mixed the resulting black soot with a clear JUICY TUBES right on the plate and dabbed his concoction onto the models’ eyes. (Don’t try this at home! You can use Aaron’s COLOR FEVER GLOSS in Piha Black on eyelids instead.) Brows were left natural and brushed into place.
Aaron continued the moody theme with COLOR FEVER LIPSTICK in Berry Sensual, a matte shade from his upcoming Fall 2009 Declaring Indigo collection, which he applied with his fingers; a lip brush quickly cleaned up the lines. The nails, done by top editorial manicurist Yuna Park, were a matching shade of burgundy, the limited-edition LE VERNIS in Rouge Bordeaux. With so much color intensity on the eyes and lips, a clean and pretty complexion was key. Shu Uemura MATTE LOOSE FACE POWDER did the trick, as did Yves Saint Laurent’s TOUCHE ÉCLAT under the eyes to lift and brighten. COLOR DESIGN CREAM BLUSH in Freeze Frame, applied under the eye near the temple and down the center of the nose, was used as a highlighter. The finishing touch for a few models?
A loose mask of fishnet fabric delicately framing the face.
