YSL Holiday Collection Swatches and Review Part I: Rouge Pure Shine, Golden Gloss, Eye Shadow DuoLumieres

I was able to play with the Yves Saint Laurent Holiday Collection 2010, and I have found some veritable treasures in this collection. This will be part one of the review and swatches, and for this entry, I will be featuring some of the lipsticks, glosses, and the Ombres DuoLumieres Eyeshadow Palette.

The YSL Holiday 2010 Collection is all about Gold and its brilliance and warmth. Holidays call to mind all things ornate, dazzling, flamboyant, and YSL focuses on that image by infusing gold in each one of the Holiday items in this collection. All the facets of this precious metal are exhausted - from the flash of gold of the nail lacquer, to the warmth of its pearly brilliance found in the face highlighter, to tiny gold specks infused in the gloss, so it is not just one shade of gold that you will see in this bunch.

See the pretty gold specks in the tube?

No 36 - Golden Chocolate

Golden Champagne, Golden Chocolate

The glosses are my favorites from this collection, among other things. There are four glosses in this collection, and all of them are infused with decadent gold flecks. They are:

No 35 - Golden Carat
No 36 - Golden Chocolate
No 37 - Golden Red
No 38 - Golden Champagne

The texture is a bit on the creamy/thick side but it is not too sticky in my opinion. The consistency helps improve the staying power of the product. It has this sugary-fruity scent, and the product is encased in the signature luxurious YSL gold cap with the built-in wand and see through tube.

Golden Champagne is a favorite because it doesn't provide much color but gives the lips a very luscious, full look. Golden Chocolate has more pigment; it does look scary in the tube but goes on pretty sheer (but buildable) on the lips. Will be posting lip swatches soon.

I am a lipgloss 'ho and these two are right up my alley because of the not-too-sticky factor, nor are they too runny. The little gold flecks are a bonus because they are light-reflective and give a sexy shine to the lips.

Pure Rouge Shine Lipstick:

No 34 - Metallic Gold

No 34 - Metallic Gold

Pure Rouge Shine has two shades in this collection: No 34 Metallic Gold, and No 35 Metallic Pink. I have Metallic Gold which is a sort of bronzey, tarnished gold which is quite pretty on my skintone. I really like the gold sheen in provides. It is definitely not a cream lippie as it goes on pretty sheer with a substantial amount of gold shimmer. It is not drying, though and has a pleasant scent

Ombres DuoLumieres Eyeshadow Palette

No 33 - Silver Gray / Golden Plum

I've never thought you can actually pair a light silver with a deep reddish plum, so I was a bit iffy at first when I saw this duo. Silver Gray is a beautiful, festive color, and is perfect for those holiday partites. Golden Plum is a dark reddish purple with gold flecks infused in it, and I love the deep, rich, matte color that complements the sheer, bling-y silver.

I am liking the color palette of the YSL Holiday Collection for 2010. I also welcome the gold packaging, but am somewhat annoyed at the fingerprints the smooth gold finish leaves. This collection is not for those who don't want to draw too much attention, as the festive theme focuses on how shades of gold can define your holiday look. My recommendations from the items in this entry would be the glosses and eyeshadow duo.

Watch out for more swatches and review of the rest of the YSL Holiday Collection.
