I was able to watch this cool tutorial of Napoleon Perdis on how he makes the perfect smokey eye.  He used the colors from his Napoleon Perdis Day to Night palette that is available at Target.  This palette has ten shades - two eye shadow quads, a blush and a matte bronzer.  I got it at Target for $24, and I think for the price, the palette is worth it because there are two different kinds of eye shadow quads in this palette- a neutral, everyday eye shadow quad and a smokey, dark eye shadow quad to help you transition from a neutral day look to evening glam. The shadows are in shades that I regularly use - shades of neutral, gold, charcoal, greyish plum, taupe. The palette is great to carry with you to help you transform your look from office to glam, just because the palette is very light-weight - it's one of the lightest palettes I own, and thus, quite travel-friendly.

I bought this palette with the idea of a smokey eye look following Napoleon's example.  I tried to replicate his tutorial in the video below:

Wearing Napoleon Perdis Day to Night palette (shadows and blush)

I tried to replicate the look in Napoleon Perdis' video tutorial, but I made my personal twist to the look to make it my own.  I first applied primer all over the lid and the lower lashline to make the shadows adhere to the lid and make them stay on longer.  I followed Napoleon's instructions to use the lightest color in the smokey quad to apply all over my lid using a stiff shader brush as a base.

I then used the light taupe shade in the smokey quad to apply on the middle section of the socket line using a blending brush.

Using a flat liner brush, I then applied the metallic grey shade on my lower lashline to create a soft smudged look.

I then used the black shade to apply on the center of the lid.  I added more color to make it softly smoked out, but I applied the light shade from the smokey quad on the center lid, just to create a slight shimmer on the eyes so it's not too harsh.

I then used the shimmering champagne shade from the other quad in the palette (neutral quad) to highlight my browbone and inner corners.  I finished off with eye liner, mascara and false lashes.

I also used the peach blush in the quad on my cheeks, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was such a pretty shade!

As you can see, I made the look a bit softer than the smokey eye that Napoleon Perdis did, just because it was daytime, and I wanted a not-too-harsh look.  Nonetheless, I followed almost all of his steps, but incorporated a few of my own to make it look better on my eye shape.

All in all, I was impressed with this palette.  The shades are soft, applied easily and smoothly on the skin.  Staying power was decent with a good primer.  I am really liking the shades because they are very wearable, every day shades, and the smoky shades really make for a nice, smoky eye that is perfect for nights out and special occasions.

As I'd mentioned, this palette is available at Target for $24.

It's time for springtime.
