MAC Glamour Daze is the Colour Collection from MAC Holiday 2012.  As many of you would know, MAC comes up with one colour collection every holiday, together with the first wave of holiday sets.  The second wave of the gift sets comes a few weeks after.  This first installment of the MAC Holiday collection is the MAC Glamour Daze Extra Dimension eye shadows and skinfinishes.

We have met the new extra dimension finish last April in the In Extra Dimension collection.  As I'd mentioned in my previous review, The new MAC Extra Dimension is a new liquid-powder hybrid formula that gives off prismatic reflections for that sculpted, highlighted and ever-glowing skin look. It has a very fluffy, bouncy texture that is almost identical to Estee Lauder's Modern Mercury tri-brid system (gel, fluid and powder in one).

Like the first release, the product in the compact is in 3D with its soft whipped-like appearance, which goes with the "extra dimension theme". You can also see the MAC lettering etched on the product. For that alone, it is already a very pretty compact.

Let's start with the skinfinishes (SRP: 29.00 U.S./$34 CDN). These are the same shades from the In Extra Dimension collection. Just like the regular mineralize skinfinishes, these are on the metallic side. They have a similar finish, but the texture of the Extra Dimension skinfinish is not powdery like the MSFs. They also do not settle on the skin in a way like the MSFs do. I found that they are softer-lookinig on the skin as the day goes on when applied dry. They give a subtle sheen but not overpowering. They really do have a bouncy feel and texture that you have to try to appreciate. If you want a really metallic look like some of the MSFs, you can apply these wet.

Whisper of Gilt is a light, soft white gold with shimmery sheen. Superb is a soft peachy nude with multi-dimension shimmer that reminds me of Shimpagne MSF.

All in all, if you are not into shimmery, metallic highlighters, these are not for you. I personally prefer them especially during this time of the year when glowy, festive and radiant are recurring themes. I apply these using a dense kabuki or for a lighter finish, a small duo-fibre brush like the MAC 188 would be perfect. They do give a subtler sheen when applied dry, and a metallic shimmer when applied wet.

For the eye shadows (SRP: 19.50 U.S./$22.50 CDN), they have the same tri-brid (gel, liquid, powder in one) feel as the skinfinishes. They have metallic finishes, but they look softer when used dry, and more dramatic and shimmery when foiled (applied wet using a mixing medium). They almost have the exact same feel as the Estee Lauder Pure Color Cyber Eyes which is also a tri-brid.

Ready to Party is a pale lilac that would work as a nice highlighter on inner corners or inner lids. A Natural Flirt is my favorite; a soft peachy nude which makes for a nice wash on the lids. Divine Blue s a mid-tone aqua, and Stolen Moment is a pretty dark taupe. Tall Dark & Handsome is a black with pearl.

As I'd mentioned several times in the past, I really like the finish, look and texture of these extra dimension shadows. It's probably my favorite MAC product for 2012. Since I liked the tri-brid system of Estee Lauder's Pure Color Cyber Eyes, I am also liking MAC's In Extra Dimension formula as they are pretty similar. I love the different look and texture it gives as opposed to using a regular powder shadow. The staying power is also pretty decent.

I do have one gripe, though. The Extra Dimension eye shadows in this holiday collection are smaller than the large ones released earlier this year, which I'm not very happy with because I loved the bigger shadows since I go through these pretty quickly. Also, the larger shadows were only 50 cents more expensive than the smaller ones. What's up with that? I really do miss the large shadows since they look so pretty in the compact, and I use them all the time so of course I like the one with more product.

The MAC Glamour Daze collection is available North America October 25, 2012, International November 2012 at all MAC locations, 1.800.588.0070 and www.maccosmetics.com.
