Bridesmaid or Wedding Guest Makeup Tips, Look and Tutorial

It's summer and it's wedding season! We've all been there - we've been tapped to be a bridesmaid, maid of honor or part of the wedding entourage, or we were invited to be wedding guests to a friend or family member's wedding.  Now what?  What do we wear?  How do we accesorize?  How do we apply makeup and do our hair?

This post is all about Wedding Guest/Bridesmaid Makeup.  How do we do our makeup in a way that we look polished and our best, and yet not in a way that we would overshadow the star of the show, the bride?

The photos above were taken years ago (my eyebrows looked so 5 years ago! Lol!), and yet while I may use different colors or products for my makeup, I will always use the same theme: polished, yet natural and nothing too over-the-top to draw attention to myself).  I know my place - I am a wedding guest, and I know it's the bride's time to shine.  Therefore, for wedding guest/bridesmaid makeup, I always choose classic, neutral colors for the eyes, maybe some lush false lashes, highlighter, contour, blush and lipstick - but always understated elegance.

I used the following products for my wedding guest makeup above:

I used Chanel Mat Lumiere in Beige, now known as Perfection Lumiere.  It's a great base for long wedding hours - it stayed put for 10-13 hours, and had a beautiful soft matte finish.

MAC Mehr lipstick

I used MAC Mehr lipstick (middle), a beautiful rosey mauve hue that's so romantic and yet neutral.

MAC Kissable Lipcolour

On top of MAC Mehr lipstick, I used MAC Kissable Lipcolour in Flaunt It (fourth from left), a beautiful rosy purple shade.

I used a little bit of shimmery colors to highlight my brow and the center of my lids, but nothing too over-the-top, as shimmer can clash with camera flash and can look garish and cheesy.  I used this discontinued quad from MAC called Caviar Dreams, but the upper right shadow is a permanent color called Retrospeck.  I used it to highlight my browbone.  Brule is the upper left shadow, which is also a permanent color.  I applied Brule on the lid mixed with a little bit of Retrospeck.  I used Caviar Dreams (the lower right shade) just a tad on the crease.

For the rest of my shadows, I used understated, neutral shadows from MAC.  I also used Dark Edge and Twinks to deepen the crease and outer lid, and Daisy Chain to highlight the browbone.

For my cheeks, I used MAC Sur blush (left) and MAC Gana (right) to highlight.

Below is a video tutorial on how to do Wedding Guest/Bridesmaid makeup.  It espouses the same philosophy - be beautiful, and yet never overshadow the bride.

MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick

This 2015, MAC Viva Glam campaign collaborates with Miley Cyrus, coming up with a hot pink lipstick in the amplified formula, as well as a super glittery hot pink lipglass to benefit the MAC AIDS fund.  I was honestly a bit disappointed when I first saw the colors.  I thought I wouldn't be able to pull off the hot pink lipstick.  I was also scared that the uber-glittery lipglass would just be a glittery hot mess on my lips without any pigment whatsoever.

Nonetheless, I was excited to try the lipstick and lipglass combination.  I was actually surprised with how it looked on me.
