MAC Marcel Wanders Swatches and Review

Inez

Julia

False Lashes Mascara in False Black

I was able to try and test the colors in the MAC Marcel Wanders 2012 collection. Wanders first collaborated with MAC in 2010 in the MAC & Marcel Wanders and it was I think part of the couture collection. The packaging was also in sleek curves and lines, but it was all done in black. Now, MAC partners with Wanders anew, but the packaging is in silver with the same sleek lines, but the lipstick shades now are all frosty and sort of in the neutral category.

Swatches:

Inez lipstick, Julia lip gloss

Lipsticks:

Annemiek, Felicienne, Inez, Annelie

As I'd mentioned, the lipsticks are frost.  There's four lipsticks housed in silver tubes with an elaborate cap, which reminds me somewhat of a chess piece.  Annelie is a soft peachy beige with pearl, Annemiek is a soft neutral pink with pearl, Felicienne is a dirty mauve with pearl, and Inez is a plum with gold pearl.  I like Inez a lot as it really suits my skintone.  I also like Annelie which I think would suit a lot of skintones, and it sort of looks kinda space-esque/futuristic with its light frosty shade.

Lip Glosses:

Julia, Karin, Kim, Jana

Julia, Karin, Kim

The lip glosses are housed in the same tubes as creamsheen glasses are, with the same elaborate "chess piece-esque" cap like the lipstick.  Jana is a creamy beige with gold pearl, Julia is a mauve-y blue pink with pearl,  Karin is a pink-mauve with pearl, and Kim is a magenta plum with pearl.  I like Julia best of all, because it really looks good paired with my Inez lipstick.  I also like Kim because it is a really nicely pigmented one, and plums look good on my olive skintone as well.  Also, the lip gloss to be not as thick and sticky as the regular lipglass, so much so that MAC opted to use a brush applicator instead of sponge-tip one for the Marcel Wanders lipglasses.  I don't know, it must be my imagination, but I really don't feel these are as sticky as regular lipglasses.  This might be the reason why MAC did not name this as lipglass but just as "lip gloss" according to their press sheet.

Sheer Mystery Powder:

You can't see the product all too well because it literally disappeared into my skin.  It is a face powder that works well for touch-ups, but I don't think it has the same coverage as MAC mineralize skinfinish natural.  It is a little too expensive in my opinion, because it retails for $60 a pop.

All in all, these are really nice couture pieces from Marcel Wanders and MAC.  I like how they opted to create frost lipsticks and lipglosses just to differentiate this collection from the dozens of others popping out this year.  I really don't know if you really need these, as the prices are pretty steep compared to regular MAC items.  Marcel Wanders lipsticks are $22.50, lip gloss is $22.50, False Lashes mascara is $18, Sheer Mystery Powder is $60 and the brush is a whopping $80.  In this economy, I don't recommend getting items from this collection unless you really are in love with couture collections from MAC, or there is one  item or two that you really want for your collection.  As for me, I am liking Inez lipstick and Julia and Karin lip glosses, but I can make do without the rest.

I will be reviewing the False Lashes mascara in a separate entry.
