See how to get this perfectly feminine yet hip style step-by-step |
At the Jonathan Simkhai show, Shu Uemura Art of Hair's lead stylist Conrad Dornan created this "hip downtown girl meets Frida Kahlo" (as he called it) look and I just loved it. Lucky for you (and me) I was backstage and got these shots of the stylists in action creating the look. Here's the how-to if you want to try it at home ... |

MAC Studio Careblend Pressed Powder Look and Review
Top: Light, Medium Plus
Bottom: Medium Dark, Dark Deep
I have been given the opportunity to try out these new Careblend Pressed Powder from MAC. MAC claims the that Studio Careblend Pressed Powder provides sheer to medium coverage with perfect skin adhesion that helps to create a more flawless, refined look to skin. Studio Careblend Pressed Powder’s versatility allows users to apply it alone, over moisturized skin, atop foundation to set, or simply to touch up and perfect skin throughout the day.
MAC Studio Moisturetint SPF 15 Look and Review
I was able to try MAC's new offering for pressed powder called the Studio Careblend, which is from the Future Face collection. I used it in tandem with the Studio Moisturetint SPF 15 and I was pleasantly surprised that they worked well in tandem with each other.
Let me start off with the Studio Moisturetint SPF 15.
This is MAC's version of the tinted moisturizer, since a lot of brands have already come up with their own take on this hybrid product. It's sunscreen, moisturizer and light foundation in one. This caters to modern, busy individuals who cannot apply separate products of sunscreen, moisturizer or foundation in the morning for lack of time.

Nail Look: Funky French Tips with OPI Sonora Sunset
Sunday, February 27, 2011
Happy Sunday everyone! Here's a funky french using OPI Sonora Sunset (gorgeous, gorgeous color!), and stamped with Konad special polish in Black and m44 image plate. I also added coral rhinestones on the tips to add some dimension to the look.
I really love Sonora Sunset. I was able to stumble on a bottle in my neighborhood beauty supply store. It is a beautiful coral polish with lots of gold particles. The shimmer is amazing. The formula was also fantastic. I wore this particular mani for days and days with nary a chip. It might also be a combination of my basecoat (Gelous, an amazing product), as well as a top coat for nail art called Tough Coat. My rhinestones didn't budge with Tough Coat until the day I decided I wanted a new manicure and took them off. Both base and top coats were bought at Sally Beauty Supply.
Have a great weekend!

Tarte Provocateur Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder Swatches and Review
Friday, February 25, 2011
Below, L-R: Tarte Amazonian clay shimmering powders in Rose, Champagne
Champagne
Rose
I've had the chance to try one of Tarte's newest offerings, the provocateur Amazonian clay shimmering powders. Ever since I've tried the amazing, holy-grail status Tarte Amazonian Clay Brow Mousse, I have been hooked on anything from Tarte made from this rich clay extracted from the banks of the Amazon River, where the nutrients are at their highest concentration. I love the amazonian clay because it is all-natural: no parabens, mineral oil and petrolatum, not phthalates and sodium lauryl sulfate, no synthetic dyes or fragrances. Best of all, this stuff truly works for me (read my review on how much I loved the brow mousse).
Ardell Lashes and Andrea Team Up With Stila Artsts for NY F/W 2011
Los Angeles, Calif. (February 2011) – Faux fringe and bold brows were fashionably fabulous at New York Fashion Week for Fall 2011. Celebrity makeup artists Sarah Lucero and Lindsey Forrest from the stila cosmetics pro artist team used Ardell® lashes and Andrea® to show off the Fall’s hottest looks.
stila cosmetics artists were backstage at the Lela Rose and Rebecca Minkoff runway shows, creating flawless faces to compliment the gorgeous garments. Andrea® EyeQ’s “came in handy for the deep lip look we did for Lela Rose,” said Forrest, who used them to clean up and sharpen lines on the models eyes and lips.
Both the glamorous eye and sweet lip for the Rebecca Minkoff show and the illuminated skin and eyes of Lela Rose were accentuated with Ardell® Individual Long Black lashes to elongate and thicken the models’ natural lashes. Defined brows completed the look by shaping and enhancing eyes with the Ardell® Duo Brow Brush. The makeup artists topped brows off with Ardell® Brow Sculpting Gel to tame stray hairs and ensure they’d stay in place throughout the event.
Having beautiful, full, and natural looking lashes is a flutter away with Ardell® and Andrea® faux lashes and accessories. Long a favorite of make up artists, Hollywood A-listers and anyone looking to flash some lash, Ardell® and Andrea® lashes are no longer reserved for special occasions; they’ve become part of many women’s morning routine.
The #1 seller of faux lashes, adhesives and eyelash conditioners, Ardell® offers many styles in strips and individual lashes with a full line of accessories including adhesives, combs, curlers and tweezers. Ardell individual lashes use a patented knot-free technology. In addition to a full line of lashes, Andrea® also carries a complete line of wax products, makeup removers and spa-quality face and body masques.
**Please note, the collaboration between lash brands, Ardell® and Andrea®, and stila makeup artists was arranged with the artists alone and not as an official co-branding event with stila.

ARCONA Lightening Drops Review and Before and After Photos
Thursday, February 24, 2011
I'd received this product several months ago, but it's only now that I am writing a review about it. Why? I always take my time when reviewing skincare because I want to give the products a chance to work. The ARCONA Lightening Drops dropped on my lap just when I'd needed it most. A few months ago, I had my worst case of hormonal acne. It was really bad and I had a lot of zits on the chin and jawline. A few visits to my OB-Gyn and dermatologist yielded amazing results and now I hardly have zits anymore (knock on wood!). However, some nasty battle scars remained, and I really wanted to get rid of the hyperpigmentation. I think a combination of my retinoid regimen, my Clarisonic cleansing system and regular exfoliation worked in tandem with the Lightening Drops to really fade hyperpigmentation, but I still give the Arcona Lightening Drops a lot of credit for this.

MAC Cremeblend Blush
For every contour control freak, for every persistent perfectionist comes this wondrous way to play with blush that gives you the most magnificent flexibility you’ve ever had…Starts creamy, stays creamy and proves once and for all that powder is NOT your only prerogative. You can get back to a new build for that retro “rouge” look – Old Hollywood Glamour made modern – or stop at subtle and natural; it’s all in your hands. In three aspects, two shades of each: One matched to skin, one for a brighter glow and one darker for cream contouring, it’s perfect for all skin colours, minus the silicone, particularly adept at preventing ashiness on darker complexions. Make powdery a thing of the past.

New MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick
Gloss is good, but there’s nothing quite as wonderfully, worldly cinematic as a Lipstick – and they’re coming back! We’ve updated formulas to make it all plausible. Sheen Supreme is the combination of the strong, sensually saturated colour of, say, Tilda Swinton’s I Am Love Milanese Lipstick, leavened with the light feel and clear vibrancy, the see-through sheen of a modern New York City Girl Gloss. Imagine no muddy undertones, gliding in pearl or creme finish, moisturizing with no sticky/tacky feel. It’s a new medium, with M∙A∙C in the lead. This is retro/modern – and devastatingly chic.
