MAC Opulash Optimum Black Mascara Review

I think the bane of my existence is my lashes. I have stick-straight, sparse lashes, which is probably partly due to my asian heritage. That said, I've seen asians who have beautiful, lush lashes, so maybe it's just the genes. I've tried many mascaras; some of them worked to at least make my lashes appear a bit lusher and longer, however many of them did not work at all. I am not that interested in having those lash extensions or those chemically-laden lash growth serums yet, so I am probably doomed to having so-so lashes except if I use falsies.

When I tried Opulash Optimum Black, I was surprised at the brush. It was humongous. Monster brush indeed! MAC claims that it is their most bodacious brush yet, formed from a blend of silica plates of mica and natural kaolin to thicken and grab each lash for a defined lush look separation. The ink is also very black and intense.

I've tried many MAC mascaras and I had a hard time reaching into those corners of my eyes because of the big brush. However, it did give my lashes a sort of lift and more volume. Take note that I have VERY sparse lashes. This is already an improvement to my natural lash look:

It looks clumpy using a macro setting, but in real life it looks natural and gave some illusion of lusher and longer (I also have very short) lashes. I've given up hope that my natural lashes can look like those really long, doll-like ones I see on TV and magazines. So this is good enough for me. Opulash Optimum Black mascara didn't produce miracles, but I didn't expect it to. It just gave my natural lashes a boost, which is great for everyday looks. For special nights out, I will turn to falsies for the bombshell look. MAC also claims that it lasts 15 hours. I didn't wear it for that long, but it stayed put for 12 hours, and that's good enough for me.

Pros: provides volume and length, long wearing

Cons: head is too big, difficult to reach lashes near the outer corners of the eyes
