MAC A Tartan Tale Colour Collection Swatches and Review

Here is another installment of the MAC A Tartan Tale series. This time, though, it is about the colour collection itself and not the gift sets. Every year, MAC comes up with a holiday collection that is so massive it contains not only gift sets but Viva Glam kits and brush kits, but the core colour collection is also one of the main highlights. We shall be talking about that in this post.

Eyeshadows:

Glamora Castle, A Wish Come True

Swatches and review after the jump

Glamora Castle

A Wish Come True

Swatched dry no base: Glamora Castle, Enviably Fun, Follow Your Fantasy, A Wish Come True, Semi-Precious

The eyeshadows come in bigger pots BUT they are not mineralize eyeshadows. They have this particular sheen and they apply like butter on the skin. They are pigmented but would yield more color if you apply it over a good base like paint pots or greasepaint sticks. The bad news is that the stripes are only oversprays, and will disappear after the first few swipes.

Golden Crown is a light gold with bronze tartan striping that I swatched but got cut out in the pics. It is a light gold so it would be perfect as a highlight or lid color.

A Wish Come True is one of my faves, a dirty mauve with bubblegum pink tartan striping.  Would work great as a lid color with purples and pinks on the crease.

Enviably Fun is a grass green with dark green tartan striping.  Since I have so many green shadows, I was not attracted to this.

Follow Your Fantasy is a mid-tone peach with chocolate tartan striping that would work great with deeper corals or oranges, coppers for a sunset eye look, or neutrals and browns.

Glamora Castle is again one of my faves - a dark grey with teal tartan striping.  This would work well with silvers, taupes and darker greys or blacks for a smokey eye look.

Semi-Precious is an aubergine with chocolate striping.  Can be a nice crease color.

Pigments:

Later, Moonlight Night

Later

Moonlight Night

Moonlight Night

Swatched dry

The pigments are the most awaited products from the holiday colour collection, I believe.  That is because they are gorgeous!  Later is a black with transforming purple pearl.  Moonlight Night is a blackened teal with teal pearl, and The Family Crest is a blackened bronze with bronze pearl.  They are beautiful layered on paint pots or greasepaint sticks, and would yield more color when foiled.

Blush:

Her Blooming Cheek

For some odd reason, I was not able to swatch the blushes!  Maybe it was because I got distracted when I spoke with the MAC artist.  Anyways, I shall be swatching them when they come out in stores, but Her Blooming Cheek is a bright, and I mean bright, iridescent blue pink.  It is super bright, but you can use a duo-fibre brush like the 187 or the flat-sided duo fibre brush by MAC (I think the 132?) to apply the slightest whisper of blush so you won't end up with clown cheeks.  This is a gorgeous bright pink.

Comparison: Her Blooming Cheek, Full Fuchsia (the blush)- as you can see, the former is still brighter and more blue-based than Full Fuchsia blush.

Lipstick:

The Fairie Glen, Full Fuchsia

The Faerie Glen would look amazing on light to medium skintones.  It is a pale neutral pink in the lustre formula.  Cut A Caper is a mid-tone peachy pink that would probably work well most skintones.  This is one of my faves.  Very pretty.  Full Fuchsia is a bright blue fuchsia in the amplified formula so color payoff is ridiculously strong.  Courting Lilac is a sheer lilac mauve which I will probably end up with as I figured that mauves look good on my skintone.  Deepest Wish is a deep creamy reddish brown that is also in the amplified formula.  Good fall color.

Dazzleglass Creme:

T-B: Lightly Prancing, Radiant Jewels

NOTE: Lightly Prancing and Soft Dazzle labels have been switched.

Lightly Prancing, Soft Dazzle, Passing Fancy, Gone Romancin'
Radiant Jewels

As I had mentioned in a previous post, I like Dazzleglass Cremes because they are the marriage of cremesheen glass and dazzleglass.  It has the sparkly goodness of the dazzleglass with the refinement and pigmentation of cremesheen glass.  It is more dazzling than the cremesheen and creamier than the dazzleglass.

Radiant Jewels is my fave- a dark sparkly magenta with good color pay off that is very festive.  Soft Dazzle is a mid-tone peachy pink with gold pearl.  Passing Fancy is a bright orange coral with soft pearl that would work great with warm skintones.  Lightly Prancing is a light peach with gold pearl that goes with anything and everything.  Gone Romancin' is a definite fave and this goes well with Courting Lilac- it is a mid-tone lavender with multi-dimensional pearl that looks quite lovely.

Nail Lacquer:

L-R: Sly as a Fox, Style Clan

Style Clan

I LOVE, love, love Style Clan- a dark taupe with red pearl.  This is really my kind of lacquer.  I love taupes so this is definitely right up my alley.

I am not too impressed with Sly as a Fox because I am not a fan of mid-tone russet/burnt reds.

Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner:

T-B: Black Swan, Undercurrent, Lord It Up, Black Line

You will love the pearlglide liners.  The pearlglide formula has been around since two or three years ago, but this time, they added a new characteristic: a new shimmering sparkle effect, not just micro-glitters. This is the reason why the Black Line is black with gold pearl; it has these shimmery bits of sparkle that make it look like a gold duochrome to my eyes.  They glide like butter on the skin and are very pigmented. However, I wouldn't recommend them on the waterline or tightline because the tiny shards of shimmery particles might irritate your sensitive eyes. Since I use mostly liquid, gel or mineral liners for the upper lashline, I tend to forget that these Pearlglide liners are great on the lashline because they're very pigmented and glide easily on the skin.

Petrol Blue is a deep navy with pearl which would look amazing on the lower lashline (not waterline!) to break the monotony when you sport a smoky eye look.  Black Swan is black with pearl (see how it is different with Black Line). Undercurrent is a teal with pearl that is one of the most popular pearlglides out there.  Lord It Up is a fave- a bronze with pearl that looks amazing on the skin.

All in all, you will find at least an item or two from the holiday colour collection that will interest you.  I recommend Courting Lilac (because I like purple-based lipsticks) and Full Fuchsia lippies, Radiant Jewels and Gone Romancin' dazzleglass cremes, A Wish Come True and Glamora Castle shadows, Moonlight Night and The Family Crest pigments, one or both blushes, Style Clan nail lacquer and one or two pearlglides (color of your choice).
