Birthday Manicure: Barielle Nail Lacquer in Myrza's Meadow

My Barielle order containing all 6 new shades of their Spring 2010 collection finally arrived, together with their amazing Natural Nail Camouflage, an anti-aging ridge filler and base coat. It is a bit expensive for $16, but then Barielle had their 15% off sale with free shipping for orders over $50. Also, their nail lacquers were Buy 2, Get 1 Free.

I tried two of them, namely Darling Dahlia and Myrza's Meadow. Here's what Darling Dahlia looked when I wore it on a girls' night out to celebrate my birthay:

It was Konaded using Konad special polish in Black. I honestly didn't like Darling Dahlia. The jelly formula is very streaky and I usually am not a fan of jellies and how the finish looks like after it dries.

For my birthday dinner with the family, though, I used Myrza's Meadow and I liked it a LOT better than Darling Dahlia. It is a beautiful lime green with silver sparkles. What I liked about it was that the glitters were quite small, not chunky at all and very unobtrusive, and yet it gives a subtle shimmer that is very pretty:

Here's how it looks like during dinner:

Eeek, sorry for the flyaway!

A Grey Look Using MAC and Aromaleigh Eye Shadows

I was pretty excited to use my MAC greys because I have not used these in a while. I love MAC's greys. They are pigmented and smooth and they don't make my eyes look like I was punched in the face. I also tried to use it lightly because I was going out but not to go clubbing.  It was just a simple event with friends and I didn't want to look over-the-top.

I also used this lovely Aromaleigh mineral shadow in Basil. It's a kind of silver-grey with some taupe/beige thrown into the mix that is so pretty. It reminds me of a darker version of MAC Arctic Grey because of its complex nuances. This is my favorite Aromaleigh grey shadow.

Of course, to come up with a pigmented eye look, you have to have a good base. I used my favorite base for smokey eyes, my Benefit Creaseless Cream Liner/Shadow in Skinny Jeans, an amazing pewter color that really makes the loose pigments adhere to my lid and create a beautiful base for them.

I am all about layering these days. I tried to layer these two lipsticks from MAC Riveting collection and I was riveted! I layered Metal Maven over Riveting lipstick and I was really amazed at how nice the combination was. I used these two for this look.

Here's a step-by-step. All eye products MAC unless othewise specified.

Apply Urban Decay primer potion all over lid, browbone and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply Benefit Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Skinny Jeans on lid.

Using a stiff shader brush like the 239, apply Aromaleigh eyeshadow in Basil foiled using Fix+ (see the nice nuances?).

Using Sonia Kashuk blender brush, apply Swan Lake on outer V.

Konad Nail Art: Under The Sea with Orly Nail Lacquer in Snowcone

Here's a seaweed Konad using my Orly nail lacquer from the Sweet collection in Snowcone and Konad special polish in White.

Here's the bottle of Orly Snowcone

I love this medium blue creme. The consistency was a bit too thick for my taste so I had to add 8-10 drops of nail polish thinner to achieve the consistency that I liked.

I used my HUGE fauxnad image plate in H29 that I got from Chez Delaney. I love her designs! This one is a kind of seaweed under the sea with the bubbles around it. So cute! I also was able to find the secret on how to properly apply these huge images onto the nails: the secret is to scrape gently but firmly enough not to leave unwanted polish marks on the stamp. It takes practice, but the key is not to scrape too hard or else the image will disappear when it's time to transfer it to the nails.
