Shills BB Cream Review

Here's another brand of BB cream that I've tried. Shills BB cream is different from the other ones I've tried in the sense that this is not from Korea but from Taiwan. This is the new version of Shills because the old one is in a different packaging. I also like that the manufacture date is printed right on the tin tube itself (20090626) and its expiration date 3 years later is also indicated (20120626). At least that's what I think it is!

I also noticed that the shade is very light, so much so that I used a darker foundation to blend with my skin. I believe only those with fair to light skintones can use this. If you are as dark as I am, you can still use it, but you need a darker powder or foundation to apply over it to prevent the whitish cast. This is the lightest shade of BB cream that I've tried.

As for the consistency, it is more runny than most of the BB creams I've tried. It is similar to Missha Watery in terms of consistency. It is thin, and yet it was very easy to apply and it blended seamlessly into the skin.

As with my other BB creams, I apply this as follows: I place a small amount on the back of my hand, take my Coastal Scents's kabuki-on-a-stick brush, and apply the product on my face in circular, buffing motions till it is blended seamlessly. I apply another light layer as needed. I top off with a very light layer of mineral foundation, just enough to set the BB cream, then a light dusting of translucent powder to help in oil control.

(Rest of the review and a look using Shills BB cream after the jump)

Note: I will not be doing a review on its skincare claims because I have not used this product long enough to make a conclusion on this. I will be doing a review simply based on the finish, texture, coverage and staying power of the BB cream as a tinted moisturizer/foundation.

I used a small amount of Earthen Glow mineral foundation in Helena over Shills BB cream.

My Take: I was pleasantly surprised with this particular BB cream. I'd thought that this would make me look as pale as a ghost both in photos and in real life, but my plan of using a darker foundation over Shills worked. It looks flawless, luminous and seamless in finish. I also loved how light the feeling on the skin is despite the layers of product. Overall, this is a good one. It comes in a huge 50ml tube so it may take you a long time to finish one tube.

Upside:

1. Very affordable compared to high end or department store tinted moisturizers; I bought it on Ebay for $20 including shipping for a 50 ml. product, and you only need to use a dime size amount for each application. You can apply more if needed, but in light layers.

2. Makes skin look luminous and radiant.

3. Can be used as a tinted moisturizer or a makeup base.

4. Most importantly, it has sunscreen (SPF30)

Downside:

1. As with most BB creams, if you have sensitive skin, you might break out using this product. Caveat: I don't use this every day, though. I realized that I cannot use BB creams on a daily basis, no matter what brand, because it WILL break me out. BB creams are comedogenic on my skin (clog pores) and they make my skin react. I realized that I cannot use BB creams more than twice a week, or else my skin will really put up a fight. My go-to everyday foundation is still mineral makeup.

2. Only comes in one shade, and that shade is really light! As I mentioned, however, you can tweak the shade by adding a darker foundation or powder on top of it.

All in all, though, this is a good product (as a tinted moisturizer). I like how luminous the skin is with this bb cream. Staying power is good, although I have yet to try this without mineral makeup layered over it.

That's it for now, and watch out for more reviews on other BB cream variants.
