L'oreal Revitalift Deep-Set Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream Review

I was given the opportunity to try this innovative eye cream from L'oreal called Revitalift Deep-Set Wrinkle Repair. It is in a very interesting dual-sided tube. One side holds the AM treatment with SPF 15, while the other contains the PM treatment that the company claims to help repair and restore broken skin fibers to reduce deep-set wrinkles around eyes while you sleep. L'oreal describes the technology behind this new eye cream below:

Technology:
Pro Retinol A: the signature ingredient in all Revitalift products, Pro-Retinol A is an anti-aging ingredient that accelerates cell turnover while penetrating the surface of the skin to effectively reduce the size and depth of deep-set wrinkles.

Fiber Restoring Complex: a cutting-edge combination of ingredients shown in-vitro to help reinforce and regenerate the fibrous network of the skin around the eyes. Two key ingredients are:

1. Pro Lastyl: a patented, chemically bioengineered ingredient that is shown in in-vitro to neutralize the elastin destroying enzyme, allowing the production of new elastin for increased skin firmness.

2. Vitoptine: derived from Vigna Aconitifolia, a moth bean seed extract from India. It has been shown in-vitro to synthesize collagen 1, the most prevalent form of collagen in the skin and responsible in part for the elasticity and tone of the tissue.

My Take: I like the packaging. The red tube is eye-catching and attractive, and it is very easy to spot in your makeup kit or drawer. I like that both eye creams are housed in one tube to minimize clutter on your dresser or bathroom counter.

That said, I must say I have always been looking for an eye cream that has SPF properties, so the day eye cream is already a winner for me just because of that. I really don't like eye creams with no sunscreen because I have to pat sunscreen over it which is obviously an additional step. I know that the skin around the eye is one of the most sensitive and thinnest areas of the skin, so putting sunscreen on that area is a definite must. The cream is nice and soothing on the eye area and it makes the area soft and supple upon application. It preps the undereye for the application of my stick and mineral concealer, and prevents these products from caking or accentuating fine lines.

As for the PM cream, I really haven't seen any dramatic effects on my undereye area. I mean, no abnormal tightening or miraculous eradication of fine lines, but if this product has retinol as they claim, then this is a product for me. Studies have time and again proven that retinol/retinoids, which are vitamin A derivatives, actually have tremendous anti-aging benefits. Retinoids and retinol have shown to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles by increasing cell turnover, and they also improve skin elasticity. I have been using a prescription-strength retinoid for years, and I know its benefits to the skin as I have experienced them first hand.

Now, let me stress that I have not yet seen marked improvement on my eye area, as I have only been using this cream for 2-3 weeks. I will update this review if and when I see changes to my eye area. As of now, though, I am comforted by the fact that the AM cream has SPF and the PM cream has retinol, two skin care ingredients that are definite must-haves in my book.

This eye cream duo is fragrance-free and has a non-greasy, lightweight formula that absorbs quickly into the skin. It is available at www.lorealparis.com and also at chain drug, food, and mass market retainers nationwide for a suggested retail proce of $19.99.
