MAC In Extra Dimension Eye Shadow, Blush and Skinfinish Swatches, Review

(Media Sample)

The Extra Dimension formula/collection from 2012 was one of the more memorable MAC collections last year for me.  At that time, I just tested the new Estee Lauder Modern Mercury Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelees, and I noticed how similar it was to the Extra Dimension formula. The Extra Dimension products have a squishy feel to them, because they are technically a hybrid of a gel, liquid and powder.  They apply like a gel but dries to a powdery, often metallic finish.

I have a few of the shades, and here are swatches and my thoughts on these.

In Extra Dimension Eye Shadows:

MAC Opalesse
MAC Dimensional Blue, MAC Zestful

MAC Zestful

MAC Dimensional Blue

Swatches:

(Left- dry Right- wet or foiled): Opalesse, Zestful, Dimensional Blue

(Left- dry Right- wet or foiled): Opalesse, Zestful, Dimensional Blue

(Left- dry Right- wet or foiled): Opalesse, Zestful
(Left- dry Right- wet or foiled): Zestful, Dimensional Blue
(Left- dry Right- wet or foiled): Zestful, Dimensional Blue

My favorite out of the eye shadows I've tried is Opalesse.  It is a pretty white with pink pearl, and as the name suggests, it's opalescent.  I like that it shifts colors from white to pink at  certain angles, and I like that I can use this both as a lid color or a highlight color.

Dimensional Blue is okay, but it is not that unique for me.  It is a frosty blue that I can use on the inner corners to highlight.  It's a bit too frosty for a blue eye shadow to me.

I like Zestful, a nice lime green, maybe because green is my favorite color.

As you can see in the swatches, the shades are pretty much the same in finish and vibrancy either wet or dry.  I like to use these dry because they are not too frosty or metallic when dry.

The difference from the past Extra Dimension shadows and these new crop of shadows is that these new ones are much more metallic and vibrant when applied dry.  The shades are softer in the older Extra Dimension shadows when applied dry, so I most often use them foiled.  With these new ones, I like to apply them dry.

All in all, I like some of the shades of these new 2013 Extra Dimension shadows, but I like the color variations and choices from the 2012 In Extra Dimension collection.

Extra Dimension Blushes:

MAC Extra Dimension blushes in Bareness, Flaming Chic

MAC Bareness Extra Dimension Blush

MAC Flaming Chic Extra Dimension Blush

Swatches: MAC Flaming Chic, MAC Bareness

MAC Flaming Chic, MAC Bareness

These are the first releases of the MAC Extra Dimension Blush; they didn't have blushes in the first In Extra Dimension collection.  MAC Bareness is too light on my skin, so I am not really a fan as a blush, but I can definitely use this as a highlighter.

MAC Flaming Chic is very pretty and I use this all the time; it's a nice bright watermelon pink, but not too bright - it's actually pretty soft on the cheeks when you use a light hand.

I use a regular blush brush when I apply these blushes.  They are not splotchy on the cheeks which is a good thing, because I thought that they wouldn't apply well.  They don't have the best texture, but they're not horrendous either.

Extra Dimension Skinfinishes:

MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Shape The Future

Swatches:
Top: MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Shape the Future (pastel pink pink, soft brick, swirled)
Bottom: MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Definitely Defined (silvery pink, soft rose, swirled)

MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Definitely Defined (silvery pink, soft rose, swirled)

I think I am loving the skinfinishes best in this collection because I am such a sucker for skinfinishes; I collect them in fact.  They now come in split pan version, a highlighter side and a side for the bronzer.

Definitely Defined is a silver pink highlighter and soft rose bronzer with shimmer.  The bronzer side is too light for my skin as a bronzer, but I still like it.

Shape the Future is a pastel pink with iridescence highlight and soft brick with light shimmer as a bronzer.  I like this bronzer in this one better than Definitely Defined.  They give a nice sheen to the skin, and they can also be used to highlight body parts other than the face like the shoulders, etc.

All in all, if you are a fan of the past Extra Dimension formula products, you will find something that you like in this collection.  I am not a fan of this collection's shadows, but I am liking Flaming Chic blush and the skinfinishes definitely.
