NARS Moscow Pure Matte Lipstick

I was able to try a couple of lip products from the NARS 2012 collection. This release focuses on warm earth tones and a splash of pinks, lilacs, and typical shades of summer - apricots, seashell pinks. These two lip products that I will review feature matte shades of lilac and bronzed red for a statement lip look.

Never Say Never is a matte lipstick and lipliner in one. Just line your lips, fill 'em and you're good to go. I love lipliners so this pencil version of a lipstick is right up my alley. I love the lilac-rose hue with some subtle shimmer even though it is supposed to be matte. It gives a defined, rose color on the lips. This is really pretty when worn by itself for a matte look, but there are times when I go for a luscious, glossy lip look, so I also like to apply a gloss over this. This product is not as long-lasting as the Moscow Pure Matte lipstick, so I have to re-apply every couple of hours. I also don't like that I need to sharpen this, but like most lipliners (except the retractable ones), this task is a must. That said, I really like how this looks on my skintone- it easily brightens up my complexion. I just don't want to use this too much or I would have to make it undergo its first sharpening.

Moscow Pure Matte lipstick is described as a strawberry red, but I see it as more of a bronzed terracotta red. It is a pretty shade and definitely eye-catching! This would probably work better on warm skintones. As I'd said, Moscow has better staying power than Never Say Never, maybe because this really is your unadulterated matte lipstick (hence the word "Pure" in the name). I can just imagine this used on a nightout; the bold hue would look amazing with neutral or smoky eyes. If you want a more glossy lip, you can opt to copy the promo photo look where they used a gloss over Moscow.

I can't pick which one I like more, but I would say I like the Pure Matte lipstick in terms of formula and I like Never Say Never Velvet Matte shade over Moscow. I am liking these two products though and they are neat additions to the Summer Collection 2012.
