I finally got my hands on some MAC Surf Baby stuff, MAC's big summer collection for 2011. When I went to the MAC HQ in Toronto last month for a secret MAC project (I will let you in on the deets very soon!), I chanced upon the entire Surf Baby collection in an enclosed glass cabinet, along with Cham Pale and Wonder Woman:

You know what I first thought? I'd thought that the Surf, Baby was a vintage MAC collection from the 1980s! I didn't like the packaging at all! The colors, the hibiscus imprint, they all looked dated to me.  I think this is one of the ugliest MAC package designs (in my opinion, of course).  Now that I let my feelings about the packaging out in the open, let's look at what's inside.  I will be making a series of posts on the Surf, Baby Collection.  Let me start off with the presumed star of the collection, My Paradise Cheek Powder.

My Paradise is the 2011 counterpart of Marine Life, the seahorse-oversprayed beauty powder from the To The Beach collection of 2010.  My Paradise is a peach pressed powder with gold hibiscus flower overspray.

My Paradise: With overspray, without overspray

Okay, can we now say in unison, "Thank goodness it is JUST an overspray?". The overspray is cute if you like gold shimmer bombs. I used it this afternoon and my cheeks had chunky overspray bits all over. The reddish bright coral base, however, is gorgeous and the pigmentation is divine. It is as pigmented as Marine Life (which screams pigment), but My Paradise is a bright coral with slight brownish red tones to my eyes. Love the base color. The gold overspray is nice when used very sparingly, preferably using a duo fibre or fan brush.

This is a nice color especially for summer, because the amazing pigmentation can suit a wide range of skintones. I can't wait to use it on the cheeks! I will be posting a full Surf, Baby look on this blog, and most probably put up a video review as well. Watch out for swatches and review of the other Surf, Baby products.
