MAC Pro Longwear SPF 10 Foundation Review

Pro Longwear SPF10 in NC30

I was able to try Pro Longwear SPF10 Foundation even though I am really wary of MAC foundations. MAC's foundations have a history of wreaking havoc on my skin. I think maybe it's because some of the ingredients are not agreeing with my sensitive skin. That said, I really crossed my fingers hoping that Pro Longwear wouldn't break me out.

A look using Pro Longwear SPF10 and the rest of the review after the jump

Pro Longwear SPF10 finish

MY TAKE: I think this is the best MAC foundation I have tried, bar none. I love the semi-matte finish because I don't like too matte foundations and dewy ones give me the greaseball look. I also like the sanitary pump dispenser.

The coverage of this foundation is light to medium buildable coverage, but if it weren't for Pro Longwear Concealer, I would not have used this foundation at all. For those like me who have some acne scars and dark undereye circles to conceal, using the Pro Longwear SPF10 Foundation in tandem with the Pro Longwear Concealer is a MUST. Even though the coverage of the foundation is light to medium enough to look natural and not cakey, it hardly conceals any blemishes. The concealer acts as your insurance because it spot-conceals blemishes while making the rest of the face look entirely natural.

How I apply the foundation:

First of all, it is important to have a good primer underneath. I used Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer. I also make sure I moisturized my skin well. I use my favorite liquid foundation brush, Coastal Scents' Kabuki on a Stick:

It has been compared to Bare Escentuals' Handy Buki brush and even to MAC 109, but the Kabuki on a Stick is more dense than the 109. I like how it applies liquid foundation quickly but evenly. Applying the foundation in quick buffing motions ensures a flawless, non-splotchy finish.

I used Pro Longwear SPF10 foundation in NC30 and MAC Pro Longwear SPF10 Concealer in mix of NW15 and NC42 (I accidentally mixed in more of the lighter shade, hence the whitish cast in the pics).

Wearing Pro Longwear

Wearing Pro Longwear SPF10 after a long day (can you tell by the messed up hair? lol). This shows the foundation's staying power.

There are three major reasons why I love this foundation: First, it has a very smooth, even finish, of course with the help of the Kabuki on A Stick. I love how it is very easy to apply. Make sure you buff in quick motions as it tends to dry fast. It gives a natural, light coverage, but in tandem with the Pro Longwear Concealer, it effectively gives blemished skin the illusion of natural flawless skin without looking cakey.

Second, it is very long-wearing (hence the name). I wore it for 12 hours and it stayed intact. I only needed to blot with oil-blotting sheets to keep the makeup fresh.

Third, and probably the deciding factor for me: it didn't break me out. I doubt that I would use it every day because no other foundation gives me good skin every day like mineral makeup, but this would be one of my go-to foundations for weekends and special occasions.  I wore it for 4 days straight and it didn't break me out. I have broken out using MAC foundation in a matter of hours (Hyper-real, hello! Good thing it has been discontinued). I am so glad this didn't break me out, because I really like the formula.

All in all, if you want long-wearing, natural-looking, semi-matte foundation, go grab this one. You will not be disappointed, and I can assure you that you would be happier with the results if you use the foundation in tandem with the concealer.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I am in loveee with this foundation too! I was never really a MAC Foundation person as well since I wasn't really into liquid foundations. But when i decided to buy liquid foundation for my kit, i was choosing over this and face Atelier, but the samples of FA made me oily in less than an hour thus MAC Pro Longwear wins. I love it!!

Too bad this isn't available in NW15! Oddly, the concealer (which I love so far!) is, so even though the NC15 foundation is too dark for me, I've been able to use the concealer over a bit of BB cream and get a flawless, long lasting look. I will say the foundation seems drying on my already grouchy-from-the-season-change skin, and looks much dewier in your hand swatch than it did on me. Having said that, I think I'd give this serious consideration if only it was fair enough.

Ooh, first great review about this foundation and it's the time when I need a new foundation LOL! Maybe I'll test this out, it seemed to look so orange somehow...

Caby- glad to know that you like it too!

Jessica- I did notice that it was a little drying because it's not a dewy foundation (I described it as semi-matte), but maybe a rich moisturizer underneath would work?

blushfully by cendena, Angelique, luminess, Adelina- thanks! :) My pleasure!
