MAC Holiday 2010 A Tartan Tale Chapter 1: Lip, Eye and Face Kits Swatches and Review

I was able to play with some of the colors of the Tartan Tale Lip, Eye and Face Kits. Other product swatches from the MAC Holiday 2010 collection will be up soon, but here are some initial swatches for you:

6 Dashing Lassie Eye Shadows

Once Upon a Time Metallic vanilla (Veluxe Pearl), A Dashing Lassie Metallic milk (Frost), Magical Mist Metallic taupe (Lustre)
Bronze Copper penny (Frost), Buckwheat Frosty medium brown (Frost), Showstopper Dark brown (Matte)

 More swatches after the jump!

6 Dashing Lassie eye palette would probably be a bestseller because it's the neutral palette with lots of really nice browns, taupes and milk colors. One of my faves is Once Upon a Time, a metallic vanilla. Bronze is part of the permanent line and I have this, and I like to use this often with my everyday office looks. The one I like the most is Magical Mist which is a metallic taupe, and would actually go well with anything. The metallic sheen would also give more oomph to the lids, making the eyes look more awake and refreshed. Most of these colors are shimmery (either Veluxe Pearl or Frost in formula), so I am quite glad that they added Showstopper to tone down the bling - a matte dark brown that would work great as a liner or as a crease or outer lid color. I will definitely get this because I can't have too many neutrals!

6 Beauties Play It Cool Eye Shadows

Silverwear Metallic lavender (Frost), Hold My Gaze Medium Grey (Frost), To the Ball Dusty lavender (Satin)
Magic Moor Purple grape (Veluxe Pearl), Altered State Blackened plum (Veluxe Pearl), Heather Belles Dark charcoal/carbon (Satin)

This is a gorgeous palette as the combination is quite unique- a blend of purples and greys are definitely right up my alley. My favorites are Magic Moor because of the deep grape hue, Hold My Gaze because I love greys, and To The Ball, an unusual dusty lavender. If you love purples and greys, and I am a fan of both, go snag this.

6 Twists of Tartan Eye Shadows

Lady’s Prance Clay (Matte), Rolled Gold Gold (Lustre), High Spirits Shimmer avocado (Frost),
Vainglorious Metallic maroon (Frost), Set To Dance Dark royal blue (Matte), Bows & Curtseys Metallic hunter green (Satin)

I would say 6 Twists of Tartan is the palette I least liked from the holiday collection because the colors are not very unique, and it's either I already have dupes of the colors or I already have the shade itself, like Vainglorious from Venomous Villains. The avocado green also reminds me of some pigments or NYX shadows that I have, so this is not a must-have for me.

6 Reelers and Rockers Eye Shadows:

White Rabbit Shimmer white (Frost), Melt My Heart Metallic silver (Veluxe Pearl), Carbon Dark carbon (Matte)
Gaelic Gold Metallic gold (Veluxe Pearl) Family Treasures Metallic bronze (Veluxe Pearl), Crown & Sceptre Metallic copper (Veluxe Pearl)

If you like metallic hues like copper, bronze, gold and silver, this is for you. Nothing can be more festive than that. The colors for me are quite dupeable but if you are still new to makeup or you know somebody who likes to wear coppers or bronzes, this is a good buy. I also like that they added Carbon for a smokey eye effect, although I don't understand why Carbon always crops up in holiday palettes when it is a permanent color and there are better MAC blacks out there (MAC, please bring Mont Black back!!).

Happily Ever After Lip Kit

L-R:
Endless Fun Sheer frosty pink (Gloss)
Cheers All Around Bright candy pink (Frost)
To Joy Medium pink (Frost)

If you are a fan of pink lips, this is for you. I like the medium pink To Joy, but I don't now if Cheers All Around will suit my skintone. All in all, though, I don't like lip palettes that much because of the separate lip brush.

A Fabulous Fantasy Lip Kit

Heroic Tale Sparkle flesh tone (Gloss)
Imagine This Pinky beige (Amplified)
Storybook Ending Raisin (Lustre)

This is the nude lip palette and would work great on all kinds of skintones, but maybe especially for olive or darker skintones. I love Story Book Ending although I am not usually a fan of dark lips.

A Triumphant Blush Face Kit

Smooth Harmony Neutral mid tan (Beauty Powder)
Melba Soft coral peach (Powder Blush)
Peachtwist Golden peach (Sheertone Shimmer)

For some reason, I might have swatched these a bit too heavily because they came out way too dark.  Melba and Peachtwist are blushes that already have their own cult following because they are really pretty and quite universal.  I am not a fan of Smooth Harmony, though, so I am not inclined to get this trio.

Hark The Heraldry Face Kit:

Oh So Fair Pale pink (Beauty Powder)
Dame Sophisticated blue/pink (Powder Blush)
Plum Foolery Faint dusty plum (Sheertone Shimmer)

This is one of my favorites from the collection because it has Oh So Fair, a beauty powder that I really like from the Venomous Villains collection. Plum Foolery is part of the permanent collection that I have and also like. Dame is a blue/pink that would probably suit light to medium complexions.

Watch out for more MAC Holiday 2010 swatches and review.
