MAC In The Groove Initial Swatches and Review: Stereo Rose, Petticoat and By Candlelight MSF, Mineralize Eyeshadows

I was able to try some of the products of the MAC In The Groove collection, so here are some initial swatches and reviews. I will be coming up with additional swatches when I see the entire collection at my neighborhood MAC store.

This collection features a whole slew of mineralize products, from blushes to skinfinishes to eyeshadow trios. It also comes with the ubiquitous lipstick choices and cremesheen glasses. Since I am a sucker for mineralize skinfinishes and blushes, this collection is right up my alley.

MINERALIZE SKINFINISHES (MSF):

The Stereo Rose Phenomenon

Stereo Rose initial release 2005

Stereo Rose 2010

As some of you may know, Stereo Rose mineralize skinfinish is the most awaited product from this collection. I have had Stereo Rose MSF from the initial release until I sold it late last year because I think I only used it 3 or 4 times since I got it. I have an extensive MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Collection and I've had every MSF MAC has released except Pleasureflush. I must say that the new Stereo Rose is a tad lighter and less coral-red than the first release.

Here's how Stereo Rose 2005 edition looked on my cheeks:

Swatches and reviews after the jump!

Here are some swatches of the new 2010 edition:

L-R: Stereo Rose, By Candlelight (2010 edition)

As you can see, the new Stereo Rose is a lot lighter and more subdued, even when I compare the old and the new in their compacts.  I kinda like the new edition, though, because as I said, I sold my old Stereo Rose because I haven't really used it that much and it didn't "WOW" me.  I will post comparison swatches with my favorite Cheeky Bronze MSF, but I still think that the new Stereo Rose is lighter than Cheeky Bronze.

By Candlelight and Comfort:

By Candlelight

I just had to have By Candlelight, a golden pink which to my eyes is a warmer version of Pleasureflush, a discontinued but very much sought-after MSF from many collections ago. As I said, I used to have all MSFs ever released by MAC except Pleasureflush. With my possession of By Candlelight, it feels like I own Pleasureflush too, but better, because the warm undertones truly complement my skintone. I love it!!

Comfort is a non-glittery skinfinish that would work well as a bronzer or contour shade. I have too many bronzers and contour powders so this is a "skip" for me.

Petticoat:

My Petticoats (notice the difference in raspberry veining)

I love, love Petticoat. It is officially described as a pale rose with gold and amber veining. At first I felt that it might be too cool for my skintone, but it actually does complement my warm color. I am actually using Petticoat in my Twitter profile picture, and I love the rose shimmer:

MINERALIZE EYESHADOWS:

Making It Easy

I used to hate MAC's mineralize shadows because they were all shimmer with no color payoff, and you had to add mixing medium to make them adhere to the skin. Well, not anymore if you consider these new mineralize eyeshadows. I use a lot of mineral eyeshadows (the loose ones) and I like the satin finishes for my lid colors. I had wished MAC could come up with those. Well thanks to the MAC Powers That Be, these new ones are mostly satin sans the glitter, which is an answered prayer for those who don't like glitter or sparkle in their shadows. I like Making It Easy- it's a Satin red brown/Pearly Beige Rose/Satin dark beige trio that would make a great everyday eye look:

Note: Title should read "Making It Easy", not Love to Love

L-R: Fresh & Easy, Making It Easy

Fresh & Easy is a Satin pink/Pearly burgundy/Satin grey that would serve a wide variety of looks. I love pink and burgundy so they can be a good combination (lid and crease colors). The satin grey side would make a nice highlighter (browbone or inner corners) or lid color.

Style Influencer

This is a cool trio as well if you like silvers and blues. The blue and the mauve brown would make great crease colors or liner colors. The silver strip is obviously a highlighter color.

I am NW35 and just went ahead and purchased Stereo Rose from Nordstrom because it's sold out on the MAC website. I've been reading so much about it. It looks so pretty on you! The 2005 version, anyway. :-) I'm hoping the newer version is as pretty.

It would be really nice if you could post a side-by-side comparison of cheeky bronze and stereo rose. I have cheeky bronze and it's my favorite cheek color ever, and although I'm one of those who is still hopelessly lusting over Stereo Rose, I wanna know how similar it is to Cheeky Bronze which I do have (so maybe I can stop wanting SR!)

Thanks!
