MAC Tropical Taboo: Mineralize Eye Shadow Swatches, Eye Look, Review

MAC Tropical Taboo Mineralized Eye Shadows: Cha-Cha-Cha, Carribean, (bottom) Dare to Bare

(Media sample)

I posted my Video Review on the MAC Tropical Taboo collection, but here is my written review on the mineralize eye shadows.  I have three eye shadows from this collection, and I particularly like the lightest one, Dare to Bare, a light cream with gold pearl. Here are my thoughts on these products.

Eye look: wearing MAC mineralize eye shadow in Fresh Green Mix (from the Electroflash collection) on the lid, Cha-Cha-Cha on the crease and outer lid, and some other olive shades from my Stila In The Garden palette), Dare to Bare on the browbone and inner corners to highlight

As you can see in the swatches, the mineralize eye shadows can be used wet or dry.  They are more vibrant and metallic when used wet (or foiled) using a mixing medium like MAC Fix+.  When used dry, these are more sheer and not as metallic, which some people prefer.

Either way, I am liking Dare to Bare.  Cha-cha-cha is a deep blue green with green pearl.  It seems to be darker than I thought, and it's better as a crease color applied lightly, or as a liner, than as a lid color.  My least favorite is Caribbean, a rose with pink and red pearl.  I like Caribbean better as a blush, used dry and applied with a stippling brush.

I know that some people are not really into mineralize eye shadows, but I am liking some of them, just not all.  I liked Dare to Bare both as a lid and highlighter color, just because it gives depth to the eye look because of the color nuances.

I still have a lot of mineralize shadows, and I like to use them from time to time when I want to have a more metallic eye look.  I also like the bigger pot because - well, bigger pot means more product, right?  I also like the versatility it provides because you can use them either wet or dry.

The mineralize eye shadows retail for $21.  A bit more expensive than regular MAC shadows, which is of course a downside, but you do get more product.
