Estee Lauder Mad Men® Collection Creme Rouge in Evening Rose and Cherry Lipstick Swatches, Look and Review

The NEW collection features two classic makeup items inspired by the look of the women featured in Mad Men’s ® 1960’s New York City setting. Bold, red lips and creamy, rouged cheeks define this iconic moment in time:

- EstĆ©e Lauder Mad Men® Collection Lipstick in Cherry features a cream satin finish and continual moisture delivered to lips for smooth, rich color.

- EstĆ©e Lauder Mad Men® Collection Creme Rouge in Evening Rose is an easily blendable and buildable formula that highlights cheeks with a dewy, smooth and natural finish.

EstĆ©e Lauder Mad Men® Collection Lipstick and EstĆ©e Lauder Mad Men® Collection Creme Rouge are packaged in a fluted golden case placed in a leather-like gold pouch, and the outer cartons are a custom design inspired by the EstĆ©e Lauder packaging from the 1960’s.

Available for a limited time beginning March 2012 exclusively at Bloomingdale’s stores nationwide, www.bloomingdales.com and www.esteelauder.com.

If there is one word I can describe this mini collection, it would be "classic". The beautiful lips and cheeks of women in the 1960s were adorned with rich colors of red, cherry, rose, velvet crimson and scarlet. Estee Lauder was right on the money when it chose rich colors of red to create a collection that bespeaks of luxury, sophistication and classic styles of an era long gone. I like that the company chose to make the Mad Men collection small but made the items outstanding in color and quality. The packaging itself is already a sight to behold, but the products' performance speak for themselves. Let's take a look at the lipstick and creme rouge.

Creme Rouge:

The packaging is divine. It comes in a fluted golden case that really feels and looks luxurious. It has a little turquoise-colored stone bezel at the clasp that breaks the monotonous gold tone and provides a centerpiece. It also comes in a beautiful leather-esque pouch that you can use to protect your gold compact from scratches while in your makeup bag.

The product itself is beautiful. It's a red cream blush with tones of watermelon pink to it. It's pretty sheer but buildable. It gives a lovely lit-from-within look on the cheeks, like the natural flush you get from exercising or from taking a brisk walk in the cold. I love to use my handy kabuki brush (a long-handled brush with a small, dense head, similar to the MAC 109) to apply this on my cheeks, then I blend the edges out with my finger for a seamless look. When I tote this around in my purse, I like to use clean fingers to apply on my cheeks. I love that I don't actually need a separate blush brush to apply this. I like to set it with translucent powder for longer staying power.

Wearing EstĆ©e Lauder Mad Men® Collection Lipstick in Cherry and Mad Men® Collection Creme Rouge in Evening Rose

This lipstick is your quintessential bold lipstick.  It does look like cherry red, and I like that it is quite wearable unlike the really bold red lipsticks that most brands often carry.  This is a softer red, very pretty for daytime but would look glamorous at night.  It also is a satin finish but has a nice soft sheen to it.

Like the creme rouge, the packaging is pretty nifty.  It would be fun to take this out in public for touch-ups as the fluted gold casing is quite pretty, as is the leatherlike pouch.

All in all, I am liking this collection.  It is small but packs a punch.  The packaging is luxurious and obviously well-thought of, as was the concept and color choices.  The shades are pretty universal and would suit a lot of skintones.  My only gripe is that the lipstick is a bit too small I think.  It's smaller that your average-sized lipstick, but I feel that the dainty size probably suits the overall theme of the collection.  The creme rouge is outstanding and I would definitely be using this one a lot.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.8 out of 5 stars
