Illamasqua Magenta Muse Collection Part 1: Cream Pigment, Pure Pigment and Liquid Metal Swatches and Review

Here are some product photos and swatches of items from the Illamasqua Fall 2011 offering - the Magenta Muse collection. I love that Illamasqua focuses on one particular color and builds a collection based on its different hues. This one is based on magenta or purple, and the gamut of shades that comprise these. Magenta Muse is also a cornucopia of different textures and finishes, from matte, metallic to opalescent. The play of textures is a great take on one particular color range.

Let's talk about the pigments from this collection. Let's start with the Cream Pigment:

L-R: Dab, Mould

I think these cream pigments are amazing. They are very rich and extremely pigmented. I would say they are on the tacky side, but that is fine since I really want them to stick to the skin for as long as possible. They are described as matte, but as you can see, they still have some sort of shimmer to them. You can apply them on your lids using your fingers or a brush. They can also be worn alone or as a base underneath your powder shadows or loose pigments. These are cream pigments so you can apply them anywhere on the body. I am amazed at the rich pigmentation of this product, how intense it is. Dab is a matte lilac that would look great by itself or underneath pinks, purples, plums or any cool color. Mould is a matte grape that looks so rich and dark. Great for a smoky plum look.

Pure Pigment in Android

Can you see how intense that swatch is? This is a metallic, high-shine pure colour powder to highlight eyes, cheeks, brows, or any part of the face or body. Android is a shimmering gunmetal that is perfect for a smokey eye look. I would love to use this wet as a liner - I love the rich, bold color, and the packaging is pretty nifty too - the small hole in the middle of the container prevents it from spilling and creating a mess.

Liquid Metal in Enrapture

Enrapture

The pigmentation of the Liquid Metal is divine- very bold and intense. It is a highly pigmented metallic cream. Great for the eyes as an eyeshadow or to line, or it can be worn anywhere on the body. I love how intense the coppery color is. This is a great color with neutrals to give a nice pop of color to your lids.

All in all, I am impressed by these pigments- the pigmentation is off the charts. Staying power is great as well- long-wearing and didn't crease on me for 7-8 hours of wear (I used a base underneath). The textures are fascinating as they are matte, metallic, sparkly - different textures you can wear on different days - or even together.

The Magenta Muse collection is available June 14, 2011 in the US at select Sephora Stores and on Sephora.com
