NARS Dual-Intensity Eye Shadow in Subra

I was able to try a few of the NARS Dual-Intensity Eye Shadows, NARS' new eye shadow formula.  The first photo above was taken from the new NARS boutique in The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in Vegas (separate post about my visit to the boutique will be up soon!).   I believe this is NARS' version of the hybrid gel, liquid and powder formulas of eye shadows like MAC's Extra Dimension eye shadows and Estee Lauder's Pure Color Eye Shadow Gelees.  Like the products that I mentioned, the new NARS Dual-Intensity Eye Shadow has a very squishy feel to it, like a gel-liquid-powder hybrid.  It applies almost like a cream but dries to a nice powder finish.  It also has a metallic finish to it.  If you want a more subtle metallic sheen, apply it dry; if you want a high metallic shine, you can foil or apply this wet for maximum metallic effect.

I have two of the NARS Dual-Intensity Eye Shadows, Himalia and Subra.  Himalia is a beautiful pewter-champage kind of sheen, and Subra is a dark, vampy plum.  Below are some swatches.

Wearing NARS Dual-Intensity Eye Shadow in Himalia applied wet (foiled) on lid, and Subra applied dry on crease.

I must say that I am liking these eye shadows if I want a really nice metallic sheen on my lids.  Since all the shades from this line are metallic, you might want to combine matte shadows for your eye look to balance the metallic finish.  I am loving how the metallic sheen of Himalia brightens my eye lids.  Subra deepens my crease and creates a lovely contrast to Himalia, and gives depth and dimension to the entire eye look.

As for the formula, these glide well on the lids, and glide like butter on the skin.  I do recommend a primer underneath, because like most shadows, these flake off or crease after a few hours without a primer.  I also recommend that you set your makeup with makeup setting spray for maximum lasting power.

These products are now available on narscosmetics.com and at NARS boutiques for $29.00 each.
