Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Shadow Insurance blended into skin

This palette is definitely going to be in my list of December (and holiday) favorites of 2012.  You can still find this palette at Sephora and Sephora.com stores, and even though holiday is over, this palette has a lot of items and shades that can be used year-round and not just for winter and the holidays.

First of all, the packaging is really cute.  It comes in a pink tin box that you can re-use to store makeup, trinkets or what-not.  It has two layers - the first one holds 16 rich and buttery shades of eye shadows.  The second compartment holds the Too Faced Shadow Insurance which I was able to try for the first time, two shades of bronzers, two shades of blushes, one highlighter, and face charts.  It also has a pink-handled double-ended brush that is really cute.

From the Sephora website, here are the official descriptions of the items in this kit:

- 16 x 0.06 oz Eye Shadows in In the Buff, Peach Fuzz, Marshmallow, Lovey Dovey, Copper Peony, Teddy Bear, Gum Drop, Malted Milk Ball, Satin Sheets, Nice Stems!, Nice Ash, Cherry Cola, Honeymoon, Pastille, Cop a Teal, Black Sugar
- 2 x 0.14 oz Blushes in La Vie en Rose, Papa Don’t Peach
- 2 x 0.14 oz Bronzers in an exclusive shade and Sun Bunny Light
- 0.14 oz Highlighter in Candlelight Glow
- 0.35 oz Shadow Insurance Eye Shadow Primer
- Exclusive double-ended brush
- 3 x get-the-look cards

As you can see in the swatches, the eye shadows are rich, buttery and quite pigmented. My favorites are Marshmallow, a shimmery yellow-white shade, Lovey Dovey, a shimmery mid-tone brown, Teddy Bear, a matte cool brown which will work great as a crease or transition/blending shade, Malted Milk Ball, a shimmering taupe. I also like Satin Sheets, a shimmery champagne, and basically all the darker shades in the palette like Pasticlle, Cop a Teal, and Black Sugar. They are truly pigmented and I really am pretty impressed with Too Faced's shadows. I have some of their palettes like the Naked Eye and the Smokey Eye palettes, and I've been pretty impressed with the quality of their shadows.

The only downside to the rich and buttery formula is that the shadows tend to be really soft and crumble easily. The eyeshadows tend to cause some fall-out when applying on the lids, so definitely handle these with care.

I can see why the Shadow Insurance gets much love. It glides easily on the lids and is thicker in consistency than the Urban Decay Primer Potion, so it's slightly tackier and can therefore prevent creasing and fading a little better (at least on my lids). It has a nice pleasant scent, and it generally gives my lids an even skintone and hides unsightly veins and such.

I like the Exclusive Bronzer in the palette. The Sun Bunny Light bronzer is too light for my medium warm complexion. La Vie en Rose blush is a pretty mid-tone pink, and Papa Don't Preach is a warm peach. Both are pretty shades and I'm sure I will be able to create different looks using these.

The Candlelight Glow highlight is a nice one for temples and cheekbones, and complements the blushes and bronzers well. It is great to have everything in this kit as you can just bring this for travel and you have everything you need makeup-wise.

All in all, I really think this kit is of good value. I wish they included one liner (instead of adding a highlighter), just to make this kit as comprehensive as possible, but this is nonetheless a good, solid kit.

This retails for $52 and can be bought at Sephora stores, Too Faced website and Sephora.com.

I will come up with a look using the items in this kit, so stay tuned!
