Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism: Skin Base Foundation in Shade Au Review

Human Fundamentalism

Skin Base Foundation in Shade Au

I was able to try some of the products from the current Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism collection. As always, the products in this collection are fierce, richly pigmented, unapologetic. Illamasqua prides itself as a brand that aims to be an explosion of your alter ego. Human Fundamentalism collection is about becoming who you are and not what society dictates. This collection is definitely not about conformity and blending in, celebrating freedom of expression. It features rich, saturated colors for eyes, lips and nails.

However, one item in this collection is unique, and it is limited edition. The Skin Base Foundation Shade Au is named after the chemical symbol for gold. It contains micro flecks of subtle metallic shimmer combined with Illamasqua's BB cream-inspired foundation that smooths, softens and conditions skin.

If it has subtle shimmer, then how is it used? You can mix it with foundation for a subtle glow, underneath for a luminous glow, or you can go all-out for a gilded god or goddess look.

I am not into the bronze goddess look, so using this alone is not me. However, I love to use this as a primer before applying my foundation. I am also thinking of mixing this with my liquid foundations for a beautiful luminous complexion.

You can obviously see the subtle gold flecks in the photos. When I first received this, I thought I was sent the wrong foundation shade because it looked too dark on my skin. However, the minute I realized that it is more of a primer or a product to mix into foundation, it suddenly made sense. This product does not make your complexion look a lot darker, but it gives a slight sheen that is really nice. The bronzey shade also gives warmth to the complexion but not in an overly sunburnt way.

It gives a slight luminosity that is not too obvious because I just used a tiny amount, but it was enough to correct dull skintone and smooth imperfections and diminish the appearance of pores. This would make for a great primer or product to mix with foundation or bb-cream or tinted moisturizer, especially for summer.

All in all, I am really liking it. It comes in a convenient squeeze tube for sanitary dispensing, and a little goes a long way. It retails for £25 in the UK and is available March 15, 2012 at www.illamasqua.com.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
