APIVITA Wine Elixir Anti-Wrinkle & Firming Rich Face Cream Review

Sometimes my skin gets so dry, flaky and thirsty that I just want it slather rich, moisturizing ingredients on my face to rejuvenate my complexion. On those days, I want a face cream in the true sense of the word- calming to the senses, yet provides rich moisturizing properties for my skin to drink deep from and revel in as I sleep.

I had the opportunity to try the APIVITA Wine Elixir Anti-Wrinkle & Firming Rich Face Cream. APIVITA is a Greek company and was founded in 1979. It was the first Greek company to create holistic and natural bee-based beauty products. It has a wide range of skin and bath products. In this particular night cream, the main anti-oxidant is wine. APIVITA replaces water in the wine elixir range with a green tea infusion to enhance the antioxidant action of the products.

The following information is from the APIVITA website and tells how the ingredients work:

Natural plant oils and oat intensively hydrate and nourish dry skin
Red wine reduces the number, depth and length of even the deepest wrinkles
Lupine and beeswax firm the skin and improve its texture and elasticity
Enriched with neroli, patchouli, clary sage and geranium essential oils, this cream tones the skin and provides a sense of well-being

Best of all, I am glad that this line is free from Parabens, Silicone, Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oil, Ethanolamine and Phthalates.

My Take:

The first thing I noticed about the product is the texture. It is very rich, emollient, but it is not super greasy. I also noticed the unusual smell- kind of soap-like but with a twist. I dot the product on my forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, and blend it in with my clean fingers. It feels calming to the skin without making it excessively oily. I like to apply this after cleansing and application of my Vitamin C serum and retinoids. These products make my skin kinda dry, but the Wine Elixir really soothes any dry spots and makes my skin ready to rest and rebuild for the night.

The company claims that this reduces wrinkles; I don't have deep-seated wrinkles as of yet (knock on wood!) to comment on this claim. However, I do like that despite sleeping through the coldest night in winter, my skin feels soft and supple in the morning. Living in the desert means that I need to take extra steps in moisturizing my face because of the dry air and environment, and the Wine Elixir Face Cream is one of my richest creams that help me combat dry skin.

I guess the only downside is that if you are in a humid area and have oily skin, the Wine Elixir may not be for you as it is quite rich. This is better for more mature or dry skin, as it is also touted as an anti-wrinkle and firming face cream.

All in all, I really like this especially for those days when my skin gets really dry. It is also a good night cream because this sinks well into the skin as I can feel my face is soft and moisturized when I wake up in the morning. This product can also be used during the day because this is technically not Apivita's night cream (they have another product for that), but make sure you use a separate sunscreen.

This product retails for $50 per 50 ml tub, and is available on the Apivita website.
