MAC Posh Paradise: Mattene Lipstick Initial Swatches and Review

Deliciously Forbidden, Seeds of Desire, Naked Bliss

Mattenes are perfect for fall because of their rich, saturated colors, and matte really gives a feeling of the coming of colder weather. I got a few of these Mattenes, but will be swatching the rest when they come out in stores today.

I've been introduced to the Mattenes around three years ago, and as I said, this is perfect for fall. The tubes are the same ones as those from the old slimshines, except that they come in matte casing as opposed to shiny metal of the slimshines. Like all lip products, you must moisturize your lips prior to application, but since mattes will accentuate lines and dryness, it is always best to exfoliate prior to applying matte lip products.

What I like about these Mattenes is that they are not really super matte to me.  They have a little of a sheen to them.  However, they are still pretty much matte and not satin, and the darker colors of these new issues emphasize the texture.  Being such, their pigmentation is off the charts, and are of course longer-lasting on the lips than lustre, cream and even satin finishes.

Naked Bliss is a light neutral pink that is best for dramatic or smokey eyes as this tones down the lips. I like to layer it over a darker or brighter lipstick to give it a more neutral or natural look.

Deliciously Forbidden is a nice midtone berry. I am really loving it because it looks like just-bitten lips.

Seeds of Desire is a deep brown plum that I really don't care much for as it is way too dark for me.

All in all, if you want matte and long-lasting lip color, the Mattenes may be for you. I know that some people prefer shimmer on their lips, so the Mattenes will definitely not work for them. That said, this product is either a love it or hate it kind of product, and it is really a matter of preference. I honestly like Mattenes only during fall and winter, and use more glossy colors for spring and summer.
