MAC Me Over: Lipstick and Lipglass Swatches and Review

Secret Lover, Peachstock, Runaway Red, Prince Noir

Secret Lover, Peachstock, Runaway Red
Prince Noir

Here are some swatches of the MAC Me Over Collection lipsticks from the Basics and New Black sub-collections.  The ones I received were either too light or too dark on my skintone, so I thought to mix them up, and they actually turned gorgeous on the lips.  The ones I got are a mix of satin, matte and lustre, but they are all quite pigmented (with the exception of Secret Lover), and all glide quite nicely on the lips.

Secret Lover is the lightest of all and it's a pale pink with yellow frost (lustre finish).  I don't care very much for this color as the shade washes my NC30 skin out, but I figured this looks great mixed or layered over a darker lipstick.  Peachstock is a permanent color and I've had one from the Liberty of London collection.  It's a neutral peach and I like it in the satin finish because it just hugs my lips and makes the product stay for a long time.  It's a bit too light for my skintone, so I layered it over Prince Noir and it just made the prettiest lip shade (watch out for a look using these!).

Prince Noir is a deep blue-purple matte that I'd thought I wouldn't like, but it's amazing mixed with lighter shades.  And I can't wait to wear Runaway Red for a night out in town.  It's a gorgeous blue-based red in the satin formula, so it's less drying on the lips than Russian Red

Illicit, Social Light

I got five of the lipglasses from the Icelandic Cool and Basics sub-collections. My favorite of the bunch is Social Light. It's a neutral pink with pearl that makes the lips look so sexy and luscious. I think the pearl is the one that makes the lips look especially shiny and moist.

Illicit is a creamy neutral pink. I've had one from the Smoke Signals collection from way back. It's an opaque cream that makes it look like shimmery liquid lipstick on the lips. This is perfect to wear with dramatic or smoky eyes.

Spite is a muted plum taupe brown. I think this is perfect for medium to darker skintones. I love the plum tones in this lipglass because it prevents the shade from looking too drab or dead.

Wee Coquette is a naked neutral pink that is sheer cream that imparts mostly shine. Great to wear over darker lippies or just by itself if you just want basic, sheer luscious lips.

Plum Fun is another fave because it's a marriage of plum and purple which I love. I love the pearl in it as well as it gives a nice shine to complement the plum tones.

All in all, the lip products in this collection are spot-on fall colors: lots of plums, purples, rich reds, and neutral shine to go with dramatic fall eye looks. My favorite lipsticks and Prince Noir and Runaway Red, and Illicit, Plum Fun and Social Light lipglasses. As one of the sub-collections' name says, some of the colors are really your basic colors that you can add to your collection if you are still building it. There are good neutral and basic shades that you can find in this collection that would be wise additions to your makeup kit.

Watch out for a look using some of the MAC Me Over products on this blog.
