MAC Me Over: Fluidline and Shadestick Swatches and Review

Here are some of my favorite products from the MAC Me Over collection because I just love gel liners and eye shadow bases. They really put the "oomph" in every eye look and make the eye shadows look more vibrant and alive. Here are some swatches of the new fluidlines.

Top: Midnight Blues
Bottom: Dark Diversion, Avenue

Dark Diversion, Avenue, Midnight Blues

Aren't these fluidlines gorgeous? These photos were taken under direct sunlight, so you can really see how they look like in natural light. My favorite is Avenue, a charcoal black infused with gold specks. So pretty whenever the light hits the gold flecks. Midnight Blues is a blackened blue which looks amazing especially when used with neutral colors. It looks dark indoors, but it gives a pretty pop of color when light hits it. Dark Diversion is a blackened plum that is great for purples, pinks, plums or even neutrals. It actually leans more on the red side of the spectrum rather than blue or purple.

What I like about these new batch of fluidlines is that they are dark enough not to look too dramatic or over-the-top, and yet they are not your usual boring blacks or browns. There is a depth to the hues and yet they're very wearable.

These are your typical MAC fluidlines- very creamy, glide like butter on the lids, and they are budge-proof. They can also double as colored bases (like paint pots on steroids if you want a really dramatic eye look). Only gripe? They sometimes dry out before you totally consume them, which is a waste.

Shadesticks:

Ever since the beginning of my makeup obsession, I've always used shadesticks as base. My staple eye shadow base was always Beige-ing shadestick. Unfortunately, not everyone liked shadesticks because they were too dry, tugged at the lids and were just not creamy enough. MAC changed the shadestick formulation around two and a half years ago and they are now creamy, buttery and glide like a dream on the lids. Here are some swatches of this collection's shadesticks.

Top to Bottom: Street Cool, Heirloom, Cakeshop, Tundra

Here's Butternutty from the Sugar Sweet collection along with Red Velvet

Butternutty and Cakeshop swatches

Tundra, Cakeshop, Heirloom, Street Cool

Tundra (love the name, it's hubby's truck!) is a nice icy silver metallic hue that can be a great base and inner corner (tearduct) highlighter as well.

Cakeshop is my favorite. It is described as a frosted pewter and it looks a-ma-zing under darker shadows. I used it under Hocus Pocus eyeshadow from the Bloggers' Obsessions collection, and it gave a new, light-reflecting pewter-taupe dimension to the eye look. Gorgeous!

Heirloom is a light, icy pink that can be a substitute for Butternutty if you don't have the latter. Perfect for pink or neutral looks.

Street Cool is a mid-tone grey violet taupe that reminds me of a darker version of Azuka Bean from the Cutie quad of the Quite Cute collection. Great for smokey or even neutral taupe-y looks.

Butternutty is an improved version of Beige-ing in terms of ease in application and creaminess, but I still think Beige-ing is the best when it comes to the staying power of the shadows. Butternutty is a frosted light neutral beige that is a great base for almost anything.

All in all, these are gorgeous colors with very buttery, creamy application. However, as I had mentioned, I don't think these new shadesticks are as great as the old ones when it comes to staying power. With the old shadesticks, my eyeshadows stay vibrant and crease-free for at least 16 hours. Without a base, I would give these new shadesticks 10-12 hours tops. That is why I apply an eye primer under these new shadesticks for maximum staying power.

I'm seriously in love with Dark Diversion! In general, I love MAC fluidlines. On the contrary, I will skip the shadesticks, because the italian brand Kiko launched last year an identical product which costs less. :D

The shadesticks aren't that pigmented but I like the fluidlines, I already have Dark Diversion from a previous collection so i'm looking forward to getting the other two.
