MAC Primed For Perfection Swatches and Review: Prep + Prime Vibrancy Eye and Highlighters

I was able to try MAC's new offering from the Prep + Prime line: the Prep + Prime Vibrancy Eye and three variants of Prep + Prime Highlighter.

MAC claims that these new products were launched to give diversity to their Prep + Prime Eye formulas.  The Prep + Prime Vibrancy Eye is targeted for the delicate area around the eye, to prep it for the application of concealers, while the original Prep + Prime Eye formula evens out skintone and texture on the eyelid.  In other words, this new Prep + Prime Vibrancy Eye is mostly for the delicate undereye area, so that concealers appear flawless and seamless and will not settle into fine lines.

MAC claims that the Vibrancy Eye improves radiance and clarity around the eye area with the following main ingredients: Vitamin C Complex with Melannite (brightening agent and antioxidant), phytosphingosine, glycosaminoglycans and gingko biloba (anti-angiogenetics), and light reflective pearls.  It also has peptides - sweet orange extract, red algae extract, caffeine and sucrose to soothe and depuff the eye area, and glycerin, trehalose, sodium hyaluronate and shea butter as moisturizers and emollients.
The Vibrancy Eye should be patted around the eye gently until it is blended into the skin. It should be used before the application of concealers.

My Take on the Vibrancy Eye primer (see swatches below):  I like how smooth my undereye area feels after application of this product.  I sometimes use it as an eye cream and primer in one because it has moisturizing properties as well.  It gives my undereye area even skintone, and prevents concealers from settling into fine lines.  If you feel that concealers emphasize fine lines on your undereye area, you should give this product a shot.  Otherwise, if you have young, supple skin, I don't think you need this product at all.  For mature or dry skin, this is great especially if you want to have as good looking skin as possible before applying your undereye concealer and highlighter.  As for the de-puffing and brightening claims, I would still have to test this product further to come up with an informed opinion about this.

Pros: Preps eyes for application of concealer, smoothens undereye area, prevents concealers from settling into fine lines

Cons: Maybe not a must for younger skin

These new Prep + Prime Highlighters (above) allow for precise application and more targeted luminosity to add radiance to the eye or any part of the face.  They come in click pens which MAC claims allow for precise, easy application.  However, even if I try to, I am not really a fan of click pens.  I feel they are unsanitary and waste product.  I'd rather have this product in a squeeze tube with a long narrow spout, like Hard Candy's Glamouflage Heavy Duty Concealer.

My Take on the Prep + Prime Highlighters: I am loving these.  I LOVE how they highlight your undereye area, but they are still matte.  They are not those obnoxious highlighters that have tons and tons of shimmer.  If you look at the swatches above, they give a luminosity but will not give you shimmer bomb under the eye area.  That was one of my gripes about using click pen highlighters or any highlighters for the undereye area.  These new Prep + Prime Highlighters have just the right amount of luminosity and matteness.

Light Boost is a soft yellow cream that I use sometimes, but I have to mix it with Bright Forecast for under the eyes.  Bright Forecast is a midtone peachy coral, and salmon-colored products like this counteract the blue undertones of dark undereye circles, so this is perfect for those.  Lastly, Radiant Rose is a light shell pink that might be too pink for my undereye area, so I will not be using much of these, except maybe on the cheekbones.

Pros: gives luminosity to the undereye area without shimmer

Cons: I am not a fan of click pens, I wish MAC placed these in squeeze tubes

All in all, I am impressed with the Prep + Prime Highlighters.  It has the right consistency in my opinion - neither too thick nor too runny.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
