MAC + Mickey Contractor Swatches and Review Part I: Lipsticks and Lipglasses

Here are some swatches and review of the lipsticks and lipglasses from the MAC + Mickey Contractor collection. As many of you know, this is a collaboration between MAC and Mickey Contractor, Director of Makeup Artistry - India. This is the perfect collection for women from Asia, Middle East, or any other ethnic background where there are a lot of olive and/or yellow undertones. Since I have predominantly olive and yellow tones, this collection is a godsend, not only for me, but for people of ethnic descent, or from Asia, Middle East, and Mediterranean regions. I noticed that MAC introduced half-shades in this collection (NC23, NC43) that are amazing for people who would have to mix two shades to come up with their perfect shade. I will be making separate posts for these concealers. For now, this post is about the lipsticks and lipglasses.

I love the mattes of this collection. My favorite is Mehr, a beautiful dirty blue pink, but I think this is more of an old rose color. I love how pigmented and smooth it goes on the lips. I used to hate MAC mattes around ten years ago because they would make my lips really dry and make them peel, but these new mattes are not drying at all, but maybe because I applied a good amount of lip balm underneath (I love using Smith's Rosebud Salve). It would also help a lot if you exfoliate your lips to slough off dead skin cells.

Yash is another matte, a deep neutral. I thought that it would wash me out, but the yellow undertones actually helped a lot to brighten up my skintone.

Gulabi is a beautiful bright fuchsia in the Amplified formula. It is pigmented and goes smoothly on the lips. Mickey Contractor is right- this kind of color goes amazing with olive skintones - or basically any kind of skintone. The shade is pretty universal.

Lipglasses:

Flesh, Lust

I am not that impressed with the lipglasses on their own, but they make nice shiny partners of the lipsticks. These are more of cream in formula since they lack pearl particles that are often in lipglasses, but these are shiny and luscious-looking on the lips. Honestly though, on their own, they are forgettable. Flesh is a nude brown and Lust is a soft muted pink. However, when layered over the lipsticks, especially their counterparts in Yash and Mehr, they look quite pretty.

All in all, I am in love with the lipsticks but not so much with the lipglasses, although the latter look pretty layered over the lipsticks. The mattes are a nice surprise in that they do not dry out my lips, but make sure to exfoliate the lips and apply lip balm underneath. My recommendations are definitely Mehr and Gulabi lipsticks. They are just gorgeous.
