Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint: A Review

From the Jouer website:

This lightweight moisturizing tint evens out imperfections and fades the appearance of fine lines with its light-diffusing multi-mineral formula. SPF 20 protects from UVA and UVB rays while Ginseng and Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract deliver antioxidants to skin, promoting a healthy complexion.

Oil-free. Hypoallergenic. Fragrance-free. Water Resistant. Perfect for all skin types.

Jouer's Tip: Apply to clean skin to even out skin tone. Layer for additional coverage.

My Take: I was given a sample of this product to try. It's basically a tinted moisturizer that many beauty brands carry, except that this I believe has a thicker consistency, which I preferred because I was thinking that this would have better coverage. I applied it using Coastal Scents' kabuki-on-a-stick brush (review coming up soon), and it melted on my face evenly, blending smoothly into the skin. I waited for a couple of minutes to let the product sink into the skin, then I applied a very thin layer of mineral foundation to set it, followed by a light dusting of finishing powder. The result: very smooth finish, good coverage. I like the SPF 20 this product provides, so it's a moisturizer, sunscreen and foundation in one. The product claims that it evens out imperfections and blurs flaws because of its light-diffusing properties, and I did see that the finish was even and smooth.

Upside: Good consistency (neither too thick nor too watery), smooth, clean finish, gives a radiance to the skin, decent SPF (20), 3-in-1 product (moisturizer, sunscreen, makeup), oil-free, contains Ginseng and Gingko Biloba leaf extract (anti-oxidants), did not break me out.

Downside: May be a bit expensive ($38 for 1.7 fl. oz), may need to layer for additional coverage. Also, I'd have preferred using a shade darker as the shade I used (Pearl) was a tad too light.

All in all, though, I would buy this albeit in a darker shade. I love how it evened out my skintone, and how smooth the finish was. I would layer mineral foundation on top of this product, however, as I still prefer the coverage and especially the staying power of mineral makeup. I also like the SPF20 factor as I am definitely not a sun worshipper. I think the best feature of this product is the antioxidants like Ginseng and Gingko Biloba leaf extract that are found in this moisturizing tint. I love products that give coverage and yet pamper your skin at the same time. You also need to use just a small amount, so a little goes a long way. If you are looking a for a 3-in-a product to cut short your cosmetic application time especially during manic mornings, this might be a good product for you.

How do I pick the shade I need for my skin color. I usually buy makeup in a "cool beige" color.
