Organic Makeup Review: Softlips PURE Lip Balm

Organic Makeup: Organic makeup is very popular right now, but the price isn’t. Softlips PURE is 100% natural and USDA-certified organic. Available in Pomegranate and Honeydew, these balms are free of synthetic chemicals and harmful ingredients, utilizing only all-natural emollients and conditioners, including organic oils, beeswax, shea butter and vitamin E. Softlips PURE is produced without pesticides or other harmful chemical ingredients and are paraben-free, gluten-free and cruelty-free. Plus, the packaging is printed with vegetable-based ink on recyclable material! Suggested retail price $3.

Sun Protection: No matter what season it is, your lips and skin are exposed to extreme temperatures, which cause automatic moisture loss. To help keep skin hydrated and protected all year round, it is important to use a daily moisturizer with sunscreen because damaging UV rays are still present during the fall and winter months! And don’t forget the lips -- According to the National Skincare Foundation, 63 percent of sunscreen users don't protect their lips. You should always use a quality lip balm with a high SPF that also contains the ingredient dimethicone. Look for products such as Softlips sheer lip conditioning line in Raspberry with Green Tea, Cherry, Vanilla and Strawberry as they contain SPF 20. Suggested retail price $2.79 - $3.99.

MY TAKE: When we went to San Francisco two years ago, I'd forgotten to bring my regular lip balm, and my lips just bled and were chapped raw because of the blistering cold and wind. I went to the nearest drugstore and bought Softlips lip balm with SPF 20. It was my very first time to try it and I was just amazed that it was very inexpensive and yet effective. I am not kidding, but it was my salvation during those few days out in cold and windy San Francisco. I also loved the slim tube that is very convenient to tote around (no need to dip your hands in messy lip balm pots; quite sanitary as well), and I loved the strawberry flavor. It left my lips perpetually soft, smooth and ready for my daily lipstick and gloss application. For 3 bucks, you can be assured that your lips will neither chap nor peel, and you get amazing sun protection as well. Now, Softlips has a wide array of flavors to choose from - Green Tea, Cherry, Vanilla, and Strawberry.

They eventually added a new variant of Softlips to join the rest of the crew: this time, it gets better - the new SoftLips PURE contains 100% all-natural ingredients. I love how completely natural yet effective this product is, and how affordable as well. It only contains natural emollients such as shea butter, beeswax, and vitamin E. The Honeydew flavor is my favorite- it has this yummy scent that is neither cloying nor unpleasant- just a natural fruity scent and flavor that pampers the olfactory nerves as well as the lips.

UPSIDE: Does what it says - keeps the lips soft, moisturized, and prevents chapping; convenient, it's in a travel-friendly and sanitary tube; has a wide array of enticing flavors to choose from; with an amazing, affordable price.

DOWNSIDE: Honestly, I can't think of any.

I give this product a 5 out of 5 rating. I will be giving away a couple of these lip balms in the next few days, so you'd know what I am talking about. Keep your eyes peeled for the giveaway!

Hi, does the Softlips Pure have SPF20?

I think Softlips is marketed as Metholatum Lipice here in Asia, so maybe I'll be able to find a similar product soon :)

Askmewhats- I agree, excellent quality plus affordability equals a winner in my book. :)

jojoba- you're welcome! I actually sat long and hard to think of a downside. Now, I'm maybe it's the fact that they don't have color like some tinted lip balms? It doesn't matter though, it works great under any lipstick.

theotherworldy- you're correct, they are manufactured by The Mentholatum Company. :) I guess Softlips Pure doesn't have SPF, otherwise, it wouldn't be considered 100% natural. Softlips Pure is the first US lip balm available for purchase in the cought and cold aisle to be certified organic under the terms of the US Department of Agriculture.
