MAC Starflash and Colour Forms

For the first time in a loooong while, I didn't make a beeline to the MAC counter as soon as I stepped foot inside Nordstrom's. They were having their anniversary sale, so I headed straight to the sunglasses section where some designer brands' prices were slashed 40-60% off. I was able to score Gucci sunglasses at 50% off the retail price. I am so happy! The trade-off though was that I knew I wouldn't have the heart to buy the new MAC Starflash shadows, because even with the 50% discount, Gucci shades' prices were still prohibitive. Like a magnet, MAC reeled me in notwithstanding the fact that I told myself not to buy anything after my sunglass purchase. However, I contented myself to oggling at the new MAC collections and engaging in a swatching spree.

I was able to do some swatches of the Starflash and Colour Forms shadows and pigments today, and I have a few lemmings. Over-all, I have a lot of MAC shadows that are similar to the Starflash ones and thus can be duped. As been discussed on MAC fan boards, Mink & Sable looks a lot like Sumptuous Olive. Lotusland reminds me of Stars & Rockets and Lavender Sky, and I have both of those. Top Hat and Sunset B. remind me of the pink and eggplant purple shadows from my Heatherette 2 trio (V.I.P. and Cassette respectively), although admittedly, Sunset B. is a lot more vibrant and has better color pay-off than V.I.P. Go! is a beautiful cool bronze, so I will definitely be getting that. Talent Pool is a cool blue that is easily dupe-able (I'm thinking Shimmermoss). Another one that I would be getting but is not in my swatches is Smoke & Diamonds, a beautiful grey with some olive undertones, although, as expected, it also has a near dupe in Sweet Sienna pigment, which I have a whole jar of (so it kinda doesn't make sense to get Smoke & Diamonds). However, I am really drawn to the color, especially since it's in the form of an eyeshadow in a pot, so I will most probably be getting that.

Here are some swatches with flash:

Note: Grand Entrance should read DREAMMAKER.

Swatches in natural light (no flash):

Colour Forms Pigments

I am a self-proclaimed pigment fiend so I am definitely be getting these pigments even if just in 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon samples. I do have full size jars of Steel Blue and Jardin Aires (which I am really loving right now - tip: this pigment is best applied DRY, as it clumps when foiled). I have fallen in love with Circa Plum, Gilded Green and Tea Time. I can just think of how great these would look with the other colors I have.

lovely swatches! =) thanks...
btw, how does Go! look like compared to Woodwinked?
And did you get a chance to look at Dreammaker? I've seen swatches of it in other MAC fan board and it looks so pretty. But was having second thoughts about it, coz (from the swatches) it looked kindda like Ricepaper. What do you think?

Great swatches, thanks! It's going to be hard not splurge on every one of the Starflash colors. I love them all.

Top Hat looks like Violet Ruffle from AromaLeigh.
I really like Grand Entrance and Sunset B.
I also think Steel blue is pretty.

What did you think of the MAC Lustre Twins?
I've been eyeing Alta Moda / Hip Love, Red Reflection / Mirror, and red Flame / Orange Flicker

Nikki- yup, that's the nice thing about sales here, when they go on sale they really mean it in the true sense of the word. ;-)

sze ling- Woodwinked is more of an antique gold and has more gold-green undertones, while Go is more of a bronze, and very similar to Tempting when I swatched both. Dreammaker is a lot frostier and lighter than Ricepaper, more of similar to Nylon than Ricepaper to my eye. But both colors are pretty, I bought my second Ricepaper today (my first MAC e/s that I used to the very last smidgen).

steph- I agree, although I just bought a few because the colors are easily duped and I have a lot of similar colors. The texture of the Starflash e/s is divine, though.

Decorative Diva- I believe so too, although Top Hat is a tad darker than Violet Ruffle. I will be making a review of the Lustre Twins sometime next week. I haven't roadtested them as of now.

resham, sorry for the delayed reply! Yes, they are pretty similar, they're both reddish browns, although Twinks has a little more brown in it. You can pass up on Twinks sinc you have Glamour Check!. Hope that helps!
