I purchased the  Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance way back in November 2016, after all the hype and accolades it received on blogs and social media, and after I watched Stephanie Nicole on YouTube say that this was one of the best (if not the best) palettes of 2016 that she's tried. I didn't want to feel too skeptical about it, but I was.

I was also hesitant to purchase it because I don't really use a lot of pinks, magentas and hues in that color family on my eyes. I prefer neutrals, bronzes and earth colors for my eye shadows.  However, I was definitely intrigued, so when the Sephora VIB sale rolled around, I quickly snagged this palette, and posted a look on my Instagram.  However, this is the first time that I am formally reviewing this palette.

The Modern Renaissance palette has fourteen shades (14 x .02 shadows) in neutral, rose, berry and plum tones.  It also comes with a double-sided brush.  The colors are very appropriate for fall, but are versatile enough to be worn year-round.

My favorites are Vermeer, described as an iridescent shell with a metallic finish. This is great as a center of the lid color. I also like Buon Fresco, described as an antique lavender with an ultra-matte finish, Antique Bronze (metallic sable with a satin finish), Venetian Red (crimson with an ultra-matte finish), and Warm Taupe (earthy gray with an ultra-matte finish).  Realgar (brick with an ultra-matte finish) is also an amazing shade.

In the photo above, I was wearing Vermeer and Primavera on the lid, Buon Fresco, Antique Bronze on the crease, and Cyprus Umber on the outer lid.

I gotta say, the formulation is divine.  The shades glide amazingly well on the lids, like butter, and I was surprised that I didn't see a lot of fall-out, which is customary and an unfortunate side effect of eye shadows that are this creamy.  The eye shadows are quite pigmented and are just a dream to apply.

For $42 a pop, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance  palette  is well worth every penny, especially if you are into berries, bronzes and lavender.
