The HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Palette skyrocketed in popularity late last year when it was sold at Sephora as a limited edition item.  It flew off the shelves and was sold out within a few days, and when it got re-stocked during Sephora's VIB sale, it practically sold out again within a few hours.  It was that coveted!

We were told that this was a limited edition product and will not come back again.  Lo and behold, it is now available on the Sephora website.  I'm pretty sure this will be a hot item in the coming months, so grab yours while you can.

Let's get down to the basic question: what exactly is the HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Palette?  It is a trio of finishing powders that give a soft focus effect on the skin, blurring imperfections and diffusing light.  It almost gives an ethereal effect, thanks to its photoluminescent technology, and makes the skin look like it's lit from within.

I thought at first that this was a highlighter.  I was wrong.  Highlighters are usually very shimmery and emphasize pores and imperfections.  The HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Palette does the complete opposite.  It refines pores and makes it look less visible, diffusing light and blurring imperfections.

As you can see in the swatches, the product does not swatch well.  That is because it is supposed to blend and absorb into your skin and make it look lit from within.  From the swatches, it is obvious that it is not shimmery or glittery, but gives a different finish to the skin - kind of like a film that suddenly makes the skin a little bit more even-toned with smaller-looking pores.

Above is an unretouched photo of me wearing the HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Palette.  As you can see, this product brightened my complexion without looking too cakey or shimmery.  It gives a subtle luminosity to the skin, and makes it look like it's lit from within.  This is the reason why I like to use this as my finishing powder for photo shoots or video recordings.  It makes my complexion brighter, pores appear smaller, and overall gives a flattering finish.

The only downside I can probably say is that the price is a little steep at $58 a pop.  I used to have a loose finishing powder similar to the HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Palette, but this is more convenient as it is in a compact.  I can honestly say that I used to not like this palette when I first used it (I thought it was too expensive), but I've grown to love it especially when I see the difference it makes in photos and videos.

The HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Palette is now available on Sephora.com.

Have you tried the HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Palette?  Thoughts?

I have yet to purchase this palette of highlighters. Maybe next time. Each time I visit Sephora I swatch them, and ooh and aw at it haha.

I finally caved in when it started flying off the shelves - I'm glad I picked one up. :)
