Sephora by OPI Gelshine™ At-Home Gel Colour System Review

I've had the opportunity to try the Sephora by OPI Gelshine™ At-Home Gel Colour System which is one of the complete gel nail polish at-home kits available in the market today.  I'd have to say that I am not new to gel polishes.  I bought an entire gel nail polish system using several Gelish and other gel polish brands, and I bought a generic UV lamp.  I quit after using them for a month because the gel polish did not last long on me.  It sometimes chipped way before regular nail polishes do.  I separated my gel polishes from my regular nail polish collection because I was so disappointed in their performance.  Little did I know that it's just a matter of using the right products to achieve optimum results.

Sephora by OPI Gelshine™ At-Home Gel Colour System gives you a 4-finger LED lamp, which means that you'd have to cure the thumbs separately.  However, having used a UV lamp in the past, Sephora by OPI's LED lamp is much more superior to my generic UV lamp, and it also cures the polish much faster.

The kit contains the following products:

- 0.29 oz gelshine™ Base Coat
- 0.29 oz gelshine™ Top Coat
- 0.29 oz gelshine™ Gel Colour
- gelshine™ LED Light
- 25 x Nail Pads
- 3 x Removal Nail Wraps
- 2 oz Nail Cleanser
- Buffing block
- 2 oz Nail & Gel Colour Remover
- 0.3 oz Brush-On Cuticle Oil
- Cuticle pusher
- 3 x gloves
- Instructions

It was quite easy to follow the instructions and use the products included. The kit contains one gelshine™ Gel Colour of your choice, which is added separately if you are buying online. I got the Break a Leg Warmer which I also have in the regular nail polish version. I got two more gel colours, this time in Mr. Right Now and Metro Chic. I used Metro Chic in the swatches below.

I gotta say I am impressed with the system. I think the LED lamp made all the difference in making the polish last longer on my nails than any other gel polish. I have brittle nails so I didn't really expect the gel polish to last two weeks as claimed. Besides, I'd go crazy if I wear the same polish on my nails for 2 weeks, I'd be bored out of my mind. The gel colour lasted 6 days on me which was a great feat in itself, since I could only wear gel polish for 3 days in the past.

All in all, this is the best gel polish system that I've used, just because the polish stayed on my nails chip-free longer than the other gel polishes that I've tried.  However, I really believe it's the LED lamp that made all the difference.  I also like that the LED lamp is very small and portable, and everything fits in one tiny box.  Removing the gel polish is very easy as well.  You can opt to use pure acetone to soak off the gel if you run out of their polish remover.

The only downside that I can think of is that the price of the individual gel polishes is a bit too steep at $17.50.  However, I think that the kit itself is a good value as it already comes with the LED lamp and all the tools and products you need for application and removal.

This Sephora by OPI Gelshine™ At-Home Gel Colour System retails for $159 and can be bought at Sephora stores and Sephora.com.

I have a gel nail system from another brand and I have to say that gel nail in general is so much better. They are really long lasting.
