Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism: Intense Lipgloss in Fierce Swatches and Review

Uncompromising.  Unapologetic.  These words are distinctly Illamasqua; these are especially fit descriptions for the items in Illamasqua's new Human Fundamentalism collection. Illamasqua prides itself as a brand that aims to be an explosion of your alter ego. This collection is definitely not about conformity and blending in. It features rich, saturated colors for eyes, lips and nails. In this entry, the Intense Lipgloss in Fierce is particularly dripping in pure colour. It has a very intense blue purple pigment, so much so that the color on your lips is going to be exactly as rich and as opaque as you see in the tube. The product has a brush applicator that is great for applying really pigmented color.

Wearing Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Fierce

As you can see, Fierce is an apt name for this shade. It is as pigmented, rich and opaque when worn as it is in the tube. Since this is a very pigmented product, a careful application is recommended. If possible, use your own lip brush instead of the built-in brush for a more controlled application. One coat can be opaque using the built-in brush, but when applied sparingly with another lip brush, it can look semi-sheer. Texture is just about right - neither too runny nor sticky, just enough tackiness to support the opacity of the product.

I actually like it. As what Illamasqua says, breaking the mold is a sign of strength, a freedom of expression. I am in for purple lips! It is unique and edgy. You can always tone it down by applying just a miniscule amount, or you can go all-out for distinct, unapologetic purple lips. I would wear this with soft pink cheeks with a slight sheen on the cheekbones, and almost-bare eye makeup so that the focus would be on the lips. I would love to try other shades in this particular formula. Hot pink or red Intense Lipgloss would look breathtaking.

Wear is okay, not as long-lasting as I would have hoped, but then I want to re-touch my lip product after every meal anyway, so it really wouldn't matter.

All in all, if you like your lip glosses sheer and shimmery, this product is not for you. This is just mostly color with strong opacity, kind of like a liquid lipstick, and not just any lipstick, a very pigmented one at that. If you want to make a bold statement with really rich, intense pigmentation, this is your product.

Human Fundamentalism is available in the US from March 20, 2012 on Sephora.com, and at select Sephora Stores on March 22nd.
