I've had a chance to try the new Bare Minerals 10-piece Eye Shades for Summer 2011 and when I opened the little pouch that contained them, I was very pleasantly surprised. These are candy-colored shades that are very wearable! There are also a handful of neutrals that will go well with every season. I also like that there are some highlight colors thrown in the mix as well. Here they are individually:

Chic Nude — veiled nude

Steel — rose pewter sheen

Sundress — light springtime yellow

Berry Flambé — deep violet

Gorgeous glimmer!

Lilac Vibe — luminous lilac

Siren — seafoam mint

Cha-Cha — strawberry pink

Wicked — smoky green glimmer

Popular — iridescent plum glimmer

Spiced Biscotti — zesty pumpkin

Swatches:

Chic Nude, Steel, Sundress,
Berry Flambe, Lilac Vibe

Siren, Cha cha, Wicked, Popular, Spiced Biscotti

As you can see, the colors are pigmented, rich, but wearable. I am particularly loving Steel, Berry Flambe, Wicked, and Chacha. I used Steel on the lower lid and I found it a bit too dark for the inner lid, so I mixed a little bit of Chic Nude to come up with a beautiful taupey shade. Love it! Lilac Vibe would make a good highlight color. I tried it on and it's pretty. These do not need foiling (mixing with liquid to create a vibrant finish) to look pigmented or for it to adhere to the skin. All you need is a tacky base and you're good to go.

I love the easy application of these eyeshadows. Even though they are loose, the pigments do not require heavy cleanup and are not messy if you know the right techniques and tools to use. I like to use a stiff shader brush like the MAC 239. I tap a little bit of the product on the lid of the jar and swirl it into my brush until most of it is incorporated in the hairs of the brush. I carefully tap the excess and apply in patting (as opposed to swiping motions). I also use the same stiff shader brush to apply darker colors on my crease and outer V, just because this kind of brush prevents fall-out as opposed to blender or crease brushes.

All in all, this is probably one of my favorite Bare Minerals eye color collection to date. The colors are not boring, not run-of-the-mill, but are rich and pigmented, BUT quite wearable. The only downside is that if you are not experienced in applying loose minerals, you may find application a bit daunting, but a few practices and you will get the technique down pat.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
