MAC Quite Cute Collection Lip Swatches and Review Part 1: Lipstick and Plushglass

Here is the anticipated spring collection from MAC called the Quite Cute collection. This is the 2011 counterpart of the candy/pastel-themed collections from years past, like the Sugar Sweet collection. It gives us different choices of candy-colored lipsticks, shadows, plushglasses, and mineralize blushes to herald the coming of spring.

I was able to try three of the lipsticks from the collection. My favorite is hands-down Play Time. It is so gorgeous it deserves three pictures of lip swatches. It is a creamy intense violet in the cremesheen formula, although not as intense as say Violetta. It is vibrant but in a very spring-y (as opposed to autumn-bright) sort of way. The subdued shade of the violet still gives a candy-feel to it, but there's a vibrancy in the shade that will brighten up your entire face. I am speaking from experience, because I am wearing it as I type, and the creamy violet shade gives my entire face a refreshed look.

Quite Cute is a creamy bright whitened lavender in the cremesheen formula. This washed me out quite a bit, but it helped when I applied I ♥ U plushglass over it, the paleness was somehow diminished. I will not use this lipstick alone. I would have to add lipliner to tone down the white pigment. It's just too pale for me.

Playing Koi is a lot more wearable for me. It is a pretty creamy white peach pink in the satin formula. I applied Boldly Bare lip pencil and it all the more made it prettier, it infused a warmth that looks great on my skintone.

PLUSHGLASS

I ♥ U

I ♥ U

I have to admit that when the plushglass was first released around five years ago, I hated it so much. I am not a fan of those plumping glosses; so the tingling effect on my lips was too much for me. I returned the plushglasses I bought.

This time around, I was hesitant to try the plushglass, but it wasn't as bad as the last time. My lips still tingled but the sting was much more bearable. Perhaps MAC changed the formula?

I ♥ U is a pretty creamy mid-tone purple. I like the shade as it is quite sheer, and would be great when you don't want too much color on your lips but you'd like them to still look luscious. This resembles the cremesheen glass with regard to the finish - it's much more creamier-looking than a lipglass. I still don't like tingling lips, though, so I prefer the lipglass and cremesheen glass over the plushglass.

LIP PENCILS:

Top-bottom: Boldly Bare, In Synch

In Synch, Boldly Bare

I love MAC's lip pencils more than any other variant of their lipliners. They are just straight-forward lipliners, and I know when they run out as opposed to those those lipliners in plastic tubes. I also love the pigmentation of these lip pencils. Boldly Bare is a dirty red brown which I use to spice up my blah lipsticks to make them darker or warmer. In Synch is a bright yellow pink that I will use with my lighter lipsticks/lipglasses to avoid the dreaded dark lipliner look.

All in all, the lip products in this collection are soft, wearable shades that you can sport for spring and summer. I especially like Play Time, it is for me the best lipstick MAC has come up in a long time (along with Mehr from the Mickey Contractor collection).

Watch out for the rest of the review and swatches of the Quite Cute collection.

Thank you for the swatches, Playing Koi is so pretty!

Do you think Playtime is similar to Style Curve from Stylishly Yours?

Silvinha- yes they are pretty similar, but Play Time is a more muted purple/orchid.
