(Seed) Healthy Hand Cream Review

There is a new line of skincare that has been introduced late last year. It caters to those who like affordable, natural skincare with effective and yet gentle ingredients to soothe dry or moisture-deprived skin. I was able to try one of the products from this line, the Seed Healthy Hand Cream. I was given the choice to have it either in unscented or citrus scent, and I chose the citrus because I love citrus-scented products. Here is the company's description of the product:

A non-greasy and fast-absorbing answer to dry, irritated hands, the Healthy Hand Cream packs a potent yet gentle concentration of natural ingredients that moisturize, soothe and defend skin against environmental factors, over-washing and visible signs of aging. Like all (seed) products, the new Healthy Hand Cream is paraben and phthalate-free, does not contain synthetic preservatives, petrochemicals, artificial colors, or animal ingredients.

In addition to antibacterial and revitalizing rosemary leaf extract and healing aloe leaf juice, the Healthy Hand Cream also features:

GRAPE SEED OIL – The line’s original “seed,” the grape seeds featured in the line’s products are a by-product of the wine-making process. Naturally hydrating, grape seed oil is rich in healing and anti-aging antioxidants like Vitamin E and proanthocyanidins, and skin barrier-improving essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid, a powerful skin rejuvenator. Phytosterols add anti-inflammatory support and gently plump skin for younger-looking hands.

JOJOBA SEED OIL – A long-chain fatty acid that has properties similar to the skin's own surface layers, this fast-absorbing oil effectively moisturizes and softens skin without being greasy, increasing the skin’s natural barrier function and leaving behind a rich, velvety feel. Also features free-radical scavenging tocopherols.

SUNFLOWER SEED OIL – Rich in Vitamins A,C,D and E, this naturally soothing oil helps skin retain moisture while providing a barrier of protection against bacteria and other irritants. Easily-absorbed essential fatty acids such as oleic acid assist with the regeneration of healthy new skin cells, anti-aging phytosterols encourage new collagen production and antioxidant sesamol helps minimize sun damage and keeps skin looking young.

SHEA BUTTER – This rich emollient offers intensive hydration to heal and soothe irritated, dry skin, and offers protection against the elements with triglycerides. Antioxidants Vitamins A and E help to balance and normalize skin, while also providing collagen support and natural healing. Vitamin F acts as a skin protector and revitalizer, soothing rough, dry or chapped skin on contact, and is a potent source of essential fatty acids, including linoleic, linolenic, arachidonic, stearic, and oleic acids. Cinnamic acid also offers natural protection against UV rays.

My Take: As expected, I loved the citrus scent. I like the feel of the hand cream on my skin: it's not greasy but quite moisturizing. I also like that it's paraben and phthalate-free, and contains natural ingredients. This is small enough to put in your purse or office drawer, but big enough to last you quite a while. This is going to be my spring and summer hand cream, because I dislike heavy creams when it's really warm. I like something as light, citrusy, and non-greasy as this product for summer.

I apply hand cream every time after I wash my hands, so that means at least eight times a day. That said, I take my hand creams seriously. I need something moisturizing and yet doesn't have a cloying scent but smells great anyway. I also like a non-greasy one for warmer days. This product fits the bill.

The only downside I can think of is that this is probably not a winter hand cream as I usually crave for something thick and emollient during this time. However, if you dislike thick creams, this is for you.

Healthy Hand Cream retails for $7.99 at select Whole Foods locations nationwide, as well as online at http://www.drugstore.com/ and http://www.seedpowerbodycare.com/.
