MAC A Tartan Tale Chapter 1: Lip and Eye Kits Swatches and Brush Kit Review

NOTE: Check out the first installment of the MAC Holiday 2010 A Tartan Tale Chapter 1: Lip, Eye and Face Kits Swatches and Review

Here are some of the product pictures I took that I have not posted yet. Usually, I am not too impressed with MAC Holiday packaging but this time, I find the bags and the tin cases really of good quality. The bags are the kind I would really use and not tucked in a drawer to languish. The lip and eye palettes are covered in real fuzzy and soft plaid fabric that feels luxurious.

A Fabulous Fantasy Lip Kit

The lip kit is covered in real soft plaid fabric.

Swatches and review after the cut

Heroic Tale Sparkle flesh tone (Gloss)
Imagine This Pinky beige (Amplified)
Storybook Ending Raisin (Lustre)

This is the nude lip palette and would work great on all kinds of skintones, but maybe especially for olive or darker skintones. I love Story Book Ending although I am not usually a fan of dark lips.

Eyeshadow Palettes:

Again, the cases are covered in soft, fuzzy plaid fabric

6 Beauties Play It Cool Eye Shadows

Silverwear Metallic lavender (Frost), Hold My Gaze Medium Grey (Frost), To the Ball Dusty lavender (Satin)
Magic Moor Purple grape (Veluxe Pearl), Altered State Blackened plum (Veluxe Pearl), Heather Belles Dark charcoal/carbon (Satin)

I have mentioned in a previous review that this is a gorgeous palette as the combination is quite unique- a blend of purples and greys are definitely right up my alley. My favorites are Magic Moor because of the deep grape hue, Hold My Gaze because I love greys, and To The Ball, an unusual dusty lavender. If you love purples and greys, and I am a fan of both, go snag this.

6 Dashing Lassie Eye Shadows

Once Upon a Time Metallic vanilla (Veluxe Pearl), A Dashing Lassie Metallic milk (Frost), Magical Mist Metallic taupe (Lustre)
Bronze Copper penny (Frost), Buckwheat Frosty medium brown (Frost), Showstopper Dark brown (Matte)

Upon playing with the colors of this palette, I can definitely say I like the darker crease colors more. They are very rich and pigmented, and the texture is awesome. I can't say the same thing with the lighter lid colors. There was little color pay-off with Dashing Lassie even with a good base. The other lighter colors are pretty decent, but I was disappointed with Dashing Lassie.

Dazzle the Lads Lip Bags Swatches:

Moth To Flame is one of my favorite dazzleglasses, a sheer natural beige. Cremesheen lipstick in Timeless is a medium rose that I think would suit a wide range of skintones. Lingerie lip pencil is a nice dusty rose that I would love to have as it would work with a lot of my lipsticks.

MAC Vain and Glorious Lip Bag Swatches:

Mellow Flame is one of my favorite MAC lipsticks ever. It is a beautiful sheer pinkish beige lipstick that I really love. Baby Sparks is your quintessential baby pink shimmery lipgloss. In Synch is a light pink that seems too light for my taste.

Noble Knights Lash and Line Kit:

Blitz and Glitz was my first fluidline ever, and it's been long gone so I am glad to have another one. It is a beautiful Black with I guess some shimmer? Teal pigment is a bright metallic teal, and I am VERY glad to get a travel 209SE brush as this is my favorite MAC liner brush. The bag is very chic and of good quality. I will definitely be using this.

Sweep Me Off My Feet Sweep & Define Brush Collection

129SE, 190SE, 227SE, 275SE and 212SE

I am amazed at the quality of the bag, let me say that again. It feels quite sturdy and the fabric is thick and seems to be of good quality, and the best part is that it does not look cheap. I must say this is the best holiday brush bag I've seen from MAC since I started to be a MAC fan in 2005.

The brushes also seem to be of better quality than those from the past years. I especially like the 227SE. The hairs feel so soft. I hate scratchy special edition brushes, and sadly some of the past years' holiday brushes were not of good quality, but this new batch seems to be really promising.

All in all, these new brush kits and eye kits are worthy of a second look. I recommend a brush kit of your choice (with the cute-looking bag) and the A Lady And Her Tricks Buff & Line brush kit if you need a 187, or Sweep Me Off My Feet if you need a blush and foundation travel brushes. Personally, my favorites from this kit are the 129SE and the 227SE.
