MAC Venomous Villains Nail Lacquers: Bad Fairy, Formidable and Mean & Green Swatches and Review

Bad Fairy, Mean & Green, Formidable!

Bad Fairy, Mean & Green, Formidable!

Swatches and review after the jump

Here are some swatches of the MAC Venomous Villains nail lacquers. I gotta say that this is probably the most famous nail polish finish for fall, because two of these are dupes of the Orly Cosmix FX fall polishes. Anyways, these are basically sheer bases with duochrome finishes and micro-particles. The base is so sheer that you have to do at least three coats.

Formidable is a teal base with purple multi-changing pearl. It is a beautiful polish that changes at every angle. It is my favorite out of the three Venomous Villains polishes. I love purples and this is just beautiful and perfect for fall. Unfortunately (or fortunately, however you wanna see it), it is a dupe of Orly's Galaxy Girl:

Mean & Green is another pretty shade. I can't seem to describe this as it is purple in some lights and green in others. It is supposed to be green-purple with teal multi-changing pearl. I can't say much about the color except that the photos are worth a thousand words to describe the color and finish. This is also another dupe of Orly Cosmic FX polish, this time in Space Cadet. The latter is the only Orly Cosmic FX polish that I don't have, and now that I have Mean & Green, I really don't think I need Space Cadet anymore.

Bad Fairy (sunlight)

Bad Fairy (shade)

I heard that Bad Fairy is the most coveted nail polish in the Venomous Villains collection because it does not have a dupe that is already out in the market, but I like this one the least because I feel it is too warm for my skintone. The red base itself is not warm but the multi-changing pearl makes it look really warm on my skin. I do admit it is very pretty though.

All in all, I like these nail lacquers but they are really not very unique if you factor in the dupes from Orly and soon to be from OPI. I am not bothered by it though because the more polishes like these that are in the market, the better availability and better choices for us nail polish enthusiasts. Honestly, though, I am still partial to cream formulas but that is just my personal preference. If you like your tips and toes to be the center of attention, go get these new ones from MAC because the duochrome is pretty and unique enough to be a topic of conversation (at least among like-minded girl friends).

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars

I love the colors!! Since I can't get Orly, I might as well consider getting these =) I'll have to check them out in real life and put them against my skin to decide whether I'll get it hahaha... Thank you for this post, though!! Amazing quality photos!

Hi Annielise! Are the MAC and Orly polishes the same in terms of formula? Thanks!

LaDamaBianca- I noticed MAC's formula became better this year starting with the Liberty of London collection (Blue India).

Beauty Addict- let us know what you got!

switchblade- yeah basically the same formula as Orly. :)

Bad Fairy is the only must have for me.

To be honest, I prefer Orly's formula to MAC's.

blushfully by cendana- aww thanks! =)

melvel- I love Orly as well, but usually nail lacquer is not a makeup company's strength, but I did notice that MAC's formula has improved considerably.

I really wanted Bad Fairy but it was sold out by the time I got online last night.

Lovely swatches you did!

I do like the Orly formula for Galaxy Girl. It only took me 2 coats for opacity.

OPI is going to be putting out some polishes like these?! When should we expect to see them, do you think?
