MAC Haute & Naughty Mascara Review

So I was able to try MAC's new mascara called Haute & Naughty. It's basically a two-in-one mascara that aims to please those who want full-on thickness and volume for their lashes, AND those that don't want clumping and just want to define their already lush lashes to give them a natural look.

MAC describes this innovative product as follows:

A two-in-one mascara that lets you choose if you want lashes to be naturally defined, or instantly combed and loaded for full-on drama. Easy to use dual-wiper system allows this lightweight formula to go on either way. One wiper refines the application for a clean sweep, while the other loads the lashes for greater impact.

It has two tubes encompassing the wand. The first one is the outer cylinder that houses the product. When you take the wand out using the purple and hot pink caps together, you will find the applicator loaded with mascara, and thus would be perfect for those who like to have a lot of mascara for an amped-up look. This is the "Naughty" side of the product.

Like this.

You then slowly pull out the wand from the inner cylinder using the hot pink cap to wipe off the excess product.

This is how the applicator looks like wiped down. This is the "Haute" side of this mascara.

I tried them and sad to say, I don't like the applicator that went through the inner cylinder (Haute). I have sparse, short lashes and I need maximum length and volume. Here's how my lashes looked like using the wiped down applicator (Haute):

Using "Haute"

It's nice in the sense that it didn't clump, but it looked like my lash hairs were too sparse, too few. It looked bald. Eh.

Using "Naughty"

Here's how my lashes looked with the loaded-up applicator ("Naughty"). Even though they looked clumpy up close, they looked lush from a distance.

My Take: I think MAC heard the complaints of some of their customers that they found MAC mascaras clumpy, so they made a 2-in-1 product for those that want maximum volume, and those that hate clumpy lashes but want definition and natural-looking lashes. On my part, however, the Haute side didn't work for me because I need volume, but I can still use Haute when I need to comb through my lashes to clean the excess product for a less clumpy look.

Women love options, so I think this would work well for those who would like to play with their looks. However, I most of the time prefer volume, so I think the Haute side would get a lot less love from me than Naughty. It is nice though to give the consumer the power of choice when it comes to how they want their lashes to look like when they wake up in the morning to get ready. It doesn't really wow me nor is it a product that completely changed my life, but as I said, it is nice to have a choice and I think many people would appreciate that. This is more expensive than the regular MAC mascara, though ($18 for .31oz), so that might also be a factor when choosing this product.
